Nobody yet? Well, I can say it's taken one issue too long to get the regular penciller back on this book. There's certain things you need a certain style for, and the finale of this issue NEEDED someone to do it justice. Craig's art style worked fine for the Kang sequences.. great even, but if what happens at the end of the story is legit.. it could have looked better.
Star Lord's team is scooped up by Kang who has a host of Starhawks with him. He informs them that in order to stop the Fault from spreading he became the Magus.. and in turn the Magus is tieing all of the possible timelines together.. which is BAD. Kang gives Star Lord the last Cosmic Cube which is specially programmed (as the timelines all intertwine) and sends his team back to the moment Warlock stops the Fault but is overcome by the Magus. His job is to stop him by any means necessary. *Major Spoilers* The whole team of Guardians is reunited, the Magus appears, and apparently a lot of deaths occur: Mantis and Cosmo try to over power/block Magus mentally but he is too powerful. He kills them instantly (Mantis I don't care.. Cosmo dieing is hard to take). Phylla starts cutting him with her Death-Magic blade, he takes it from her.. (and Vance's shield) Dead Phylla! Tosses the sheild back at Astrovic, cuts open his containment suit. You guessed it.. Dead. Gamora goes after him. Decapitated (pretty dead.. even for her). Drax tries to rip his heart out.. doesn't work.. looses his hand. Quill manages to get to the cube, shuts Magus down.. Warlock tells him there's no oter way. BLAM.. no more Magus/Warlock.. Quill blows his brains out. Oh. all the members of the Church were overcome with grief when they lost the Magus and self destructed all of their ships.. all of that was off panel. If it all sticks, six characters are axed. Craig's style just doesn't work for me on this level, Cosmo most of all deserved to look better in his last panels. Maybe it'll all get fixed, there's still a cosmic cube sitting there. Last edited by CyberCoyote; 10-28-2009 at 09:16 PM. |

I have to assume there will be another stab at fixing the situation through time travel (or a certain polyhedral plot device). But still, whoa.
Personally, I loved Craig's art, here. It's a little more cartoony and stylish than the "house style" we've had since Annihilation, but I think it works marvelously. It's bright, expressive, and exciting. I think I compared him to Immonen based on the preview, and I'll stick with that. |

This was one of those "holy sh**" type of issues.
Wow. I thought it was good. The art, while I would have preferred Walker especially at the end, was good. I don't have a problem with Craig's art. Can't wait to see what happens next, and with Moondragon in particular. |

Though I'm fairly sure some of this will be reversed via time travel or reality alteration, even if it's not a good percentage of the people killed have been killed before and have a good knack for coming back.

No way you kill THAT many characters in a time travel story including the central human mouth piece and not have at least half of the deaths reversed.

Yeah, they also killed off all the girls on the team except Moondragon so I'm betting there's gonna be some resetting.
Not a fan of the art style. |

My shop didn't get their shipment, otherwise I'd post about how freaking awesome the issue was. Instead I'll just predict it and weigh in next week.

It was alright...though I was a little confused at the end. Did the Universal Church of Truth perish? Are we EVER going to find out who's in that other coccoon?
Well here's hoping they fix all this time crap and bring Adam Warlock back. This book isn't worth picking up without him in the roster...though I sense it's coming to an end soon, anyway.

Wow, that was a great issue. I agree with the rest of you and don't think the deaths will last, but still, that was pretty ballsy.

just a minor note, but drax did NOT lose his hand. he's clearly seen in several panels afterward with both hands intact.
and yeah, obviously most, if not all, of the deaths won't stick. |

Sorry, this one didn't work for me at all. We KNOW that what happened isn't going to stick (and nor should it, it was really ridiculous).
And quite frankly, the Wes Craig art didn't give the denouement the needed gravitas it needed in order to be somewhat believable, even in a temporary "wait till the next issue" feel. |

Its a shame Brad Walker didn't get to pencil this issue. This was one of the best issue so far and I would really have liked to see him cut loose with the battle with Magus. Although Wes Craig did do a pretty decent job.
