Default trying to get back on track...I am so out of the loop

I picked up Punisher #5 to 9 at a bus terminal last night and I enjoyed it immensely. I was telling my neighbor about it and she said something about how the Punisher War Journal officially brought him back to the Marvel Universe.

I wasn't giving her my full attention because I was distracted at the time so when I went online later I admit I was a bit confused in what I was looking for. So please bear with my noobish-ness...

The WJ series that brought him back to, so to speak, the Marvel universe with costumed series was the 2nd series right(#'s 1 to 26)? Which was cancelled for the new series Punisher, correct?

Yeah. But it does not worth your time. It's ok overall, but the bad arcs are very boring.

The nadir of PWJ is the Christmas issue where the Rhino talks Frank out of shooting some fools screwing around with the Stilt-Man costume.

Lord, that one was bad.

I've always looked at Fraction's PWJ as a commentary on how Punisher does not fit in the Marvel Universe. The killing of Stilt Man and the issue covering his funeral are just two points that show this isn't Frank's world. He belongs in MAX because in the 616 he's just shooting guys in spandex with pumpkin heads who just come back to life two months later.

I bought the whole run. It has some really cool moments. I'd advise to stay away from the arc where he dresses as Captain America and fights the Hate Monger though.

The first 4 issues are really great. Meaning, the CW tie ins, and the bar with no name. After that it lost me with the hate monger thing, the Venom suit, and others like that. The issue where he talks with Bucky was also good. Oliveti's art played a part in not liking the book. Then came Chaykin. Thank god I had dropped the book by then.
