Default Frank Miller's "Man without fear"

I just finished reading this for the second time and although I'm a big fan of Millers DD I do have a couple problems with this origin story.

One, Matt took out the fixer "before" he became DD. Originally, Matt wore the yellow threads .

Two, Matt graduates and goes to work for a big law firm instead of he and Foggy starting their own practice. This even goes against what Miller wrote in his earler DD work.

Thought ?

Man Without Fear isn't in continuity. It's basically an adaptation of Miller's stab at a Daredevil movie script.

That said, it's so good that bits and pieces of it have worked their way into continuity over the years (eg. Joe Kelly tying Typhoid Mary's origin to Matt's hunt for the Fixer in MWF).

I think it should be called "Daredevil: Year One"

As above, the story isn't in general continuity. It was, I believe, spun out of a screenplay that failed to get produced (though it would have been much better than the script they used for Daredevil, when we did get a film).

Hell of a comic, though. I think it's one of the best comics Miller has done.

Totally agree! I think that was the first comic I read that got me really hooked on comics.

So pseudo-continuity? Good enough for me
Also was Ultimate DD&E any good?

it is so dated, i can not read that with it out it spilling 80's on my lap.
not always a bad thing but i was not a fan. i feel like it just blurs the line again between batman and daredevil.

that is strange, especially since it was a 90s mini

Maybe Miller was channeling the '80's

look at that art though. it looks like the 80's style that the darker comics were going for.

Perhaps, but that is a bad thing? Romita Jr MWF art is outdated compared to the marvel house style of 93/94..hmm...? And this was a origin tale too you realize...things that happened in the past. just saying.

Miller can channel 80s Miller whenever he wants as far as I am concerned, and I would spend good $ for it.

I'm sure it's just a matter of taste and opinion...and I don't dare put MWF among the very best DD stories, but it is a good read. Now Born Again on the other hand, pure gold standard.

a friend of mine gave me issue 1 when it came out... We didn't live anywhere near any comic stores at the time, so that's all I had for years...

It's the first comic I can remember reading so many times that the cover fell off, and it's why I decided to put together a complete run of Daredevil.

in continuity or not, I loved it. :)

Quoted for truth. I don't care if it's in continuity or not, it's one of the best books.
