Default Very quick interview with Geoff Johns...

I wasn't sure where to post this...I hope this is OK where it is. Please accept my apologies if it is not.

My editor and I recently worked the red carpet last week in LA providing coverage for Spike TV's Scream 2009 awards.

Anyway my editor was able to get a few quick words in with Green Lantern writer Geoff Johns...

Quote:
Stan Lee mentioned that fifty years ago, you’d be embarrassed to say you worked in the comic book industry, but today, you embrace it. One reason for this is the attention-grabbing talents of writer Geoff Johns. Arguably the biggest thing to hit the shelves of comic book stores in a long time is the Blackest Night series from DC. Drenching the DC Universe in pure evil complemented by the stench of death is the tale of a heart-devouring conflict delivered to our fingertips from the mind of Geoff Johns. Winner of the Best Comic Book Writer award, the man behind Green Lantern, Flash Rebirth and Blackest Night provided Why So Blu with a quick bit of info that’s keeping comic book fans waiting with baited breath.

WSB: You’ve got to be satisfied with the success of the Blackest Night series so far.

Geoff: Very!

WSB: Without saying too much, can you mention anything that we can expect in the series?

Geoff: Um, Blackest Night Batman or Black Lantern Batman.

Black Lantern Batman? Stay tuned, folks!
Here's an image from the conversation:

We also have a quick word with the FX people of Watchmen and more here:

Hmm, looks as if Batman's role will be played up more than I thought.

That said, Didio flatout said that isn't exactly Batman's body, so that has to be remembered. And I severely doubt Batman will come back so soon. What will happen then?...don't know, confused.

Blind guess: That was Batman's "old" body, because he was Omega Sanctioned. And that old body will rise as a Black Lantern, making other heroes think he's a BL.

Lex Luthor: I want you to remember this day, Clark. I want you to remember that despite all your amazing powers, there was one man that beat you. Maybe this was always our destiny. How sad.

I thought Batman was sitting in a cave during the times of Anthro?

That was what happened in the last page of the mini-series that 'killed' him.

How can he come back from the dead when he isn't physically dead?

Bat-Boy Prime perhaps?

You're exactly right, he is alive.

My concern exactly. Didio buffered the idea that he is still alive by confirming that those buried bones aren't Batman's.

So my blind guess is: That was Batman's "old" body, because he was Omega Sanctioned. And that old body will rise as a Black Lantern, making other heroes think he's a BL.

Here's a thought: the true answer about the mystery of the body might actually lie with Wonder Woman.

Huh?

Who was the primary villain in the last uber-arc in WW? Genocide. Who was the body of Genocide revealed to be? The reanimated corpse of WW from the future.

What if when Darkseid's Omega Beams hit Batman, it simply caused a time shift that sent his present body into the past and brought his future body (at the time, a long-dead corpse) into the present?

Didio has lied before. I really don't want Geoff having anything to do with Batman, it's Morrison's story and he should let him handle it. Not only that, but I don't like Geoff's characterization of Bruce either. See Teen Titans A Kid's Game and Rebirth.

Course, Bruce is alive in the past. That doesn't mean that he's not dead in the present day. Or that this body is a Batman from an alternate reality.

It's not like Johns didn't run this by Morrison and got his approval.

To be fair, neither of those were his story, and he was just there to help define the main characters of the books - he was just a little more prickly than usual.
A later Green Lantern issue presented him better, where he and Hal team up to take down the new Tattooed man.
