Wasn't THAT particular plotline done for an episode of THE REAL
GHOSTBUSTERS?

I believe it was.

Though the story seems different, this is definitely not the first time the Ghostbusters have met the infamous Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future. Indeed, they met one another back in the old 80s cartoon:

I'd make the same comment, but added, it's pretty much the most famous episode, written by JMS, and the CBR writer should have asked about it.

I got to say that the first thing that came to my mind once I saw it.

I mean it was already done before in the animated series and wouldn't JMS be a bit annoyed at seeing this storyline repeated again ?

So pleased I wasn't the only one who noticed this.

IIRC, didn't they get thrown into the past or some such and help the original Scrooge, which then bollixes up the future, making everyone grouchy and stuff?

This seems more like they are helping a modern miser, so it's not the same plot, but the same ballpark.

IIRC, the Real Ghostbusters story involved the team accidently trapping the three ghosts before they could do their work on the original Scrooge himself, resulting in a dark future where Christmas was a forgotten holiday(not too far from the truth, since Dickens' original story was written in a time when the celebration of Christmas had fallen out of favor, and is credited with popularizing the holiday). It wouldn't be too difficult for the book's writer to reference the earlier adventure, as a shout-out to JMS.
