I think we've done this before, but the search engine isn't helping me. :)
Mamoru Hijikata is the main character from the rather realistically drawn manga 'Until Death Do Us Part'. He's blind, but uses a sophisticated sonar system to give him 'sight' (it's built into his sunglasses). His feats run as follows. 1. Speed - Ridiculously skilled bullet-timer. He seems to bullet-time in every encounter, cutting bullets out of the air, dodging sniper rounds after they've been fired, dodging massive amounts of automatic weapon fire (he also dodges bullets fired from outside of his sonar-area). He also casually blitzes groups of enemies, demonstrating his speed in other ways. 2. Strength - it's not comic book peak human, but it's good enough to one-punch people, toss them around, leap further than a human should, that sort of thing. I may have forgotten some feats. In any case, due to his weapon (below) it's not such a serious issue. 3. Endurance/Damage soak - fights all night against swarms of drugged up adversaries. It exhausts him, but there's no way he's passing out due to endurance in a match in the arena. Gets bounced around by a car, keeps going. Seems pretty darned tough. 4. Skill - Stupidly precise and accurate with his weapon. By virtue of skill alone, he fights blind (when missing his technological sonar abilities, he still fights perfectly well, cutting limbs from people attacking him in total silence with sound masked by enemy tech, dodging bullets fired by opponents he can't see, slicing up people hiding in sound-dampened ambush - all based on his 'sensing their intent' and no doubt other cues from his other senses). He takes on another supremely skilled swordsman and arguably comes off better. He may have other skill-feats I've forgotten. He's extremely tactically skilled, figuring out his enemies' tactics even when he can't sense them and constantly manipulating the environment to his advantage. 5. Weapon - Mamoru uses a katana-like weapon (it's straight, hidden in his cane) that essentially has a monomolecular cutting edge. With it, he slices bullets in half, slices through metal doors like they're nothing, etc. 6. His ability to sense the 'intent' of an attacker resembles combat-precog at times. How does he do against Matt Murdock? 1. Arena match, standard rules. 2. Urban area (downtown), both fighters initially unfamiliar with their surroundings. I picked Daredevil because he seems to be the closest match to Mamoru. At present, I'm figuring it's close to a tie - Matt edges out Mamoru in verifiable combat precog, but needs to score hits on pressure points to get a one-hit KO. Mamoru has a longer weapon that doesn't need to hit anywhere specific to really mess up Murdock's day. Thoughts? |

hmmmm close one. but i'd give the edge to mamoru. with that special blade of his, matt cant afford a causal cut from that thing.

i was hoping someone caught that.
but yeah, matt is too human for mamoru and that blade of his. with his skill and speed, a casual cut on his arm can render it useless. hell, i wouldnt give good odds on that billy club standing up to one or two slashes. what's it made of?

I could all too easily see Matt going for a parry or something with the billy clubs against Mamoru's blade and then being surprised as his head/arm/torso/whatever falls off.
The monomolecular blade is too powerful and their fighting abilities are too close. On a side note; I still find it amusing that Mamoru uses sonar to perceive things and yet can still perceive bullets that move faster than sound.

But he also dodges by 'intent', if I recall correctly. |

Yeah the blade is to much for DD, he doesn't have a solid speed advantage and precog cancels itself out so how is he going to get in close to hit with pressure points. On top of that a sword has much better range that a billy club DD can't risk throwing it either or he will lose it. Jesus he can't even block anymore because it cuts on the molecular level based on what I know of DD he goes down hard.

Has Marvel ever explained how Daredevil can dodge bullets when bullets can travel several times the speed of sound?

I think at the least Matt takes a few out of ten. Radar and other special senses, coupled with bullet-timing reflexes. |

I wanted to revisit it because these days Mamoru is getting more and more feats that show him dodging without his senses operating properly - dodging people when completely 'blind' to them, for example, and dodging sniper rounds fired from a great distance so there's no possible way he's aware of the shooter. I'm figuring this one runs closer to 50/50 these days. Milage may vary. |

got another feat for mamoru. back in his younger days, he cut a bullet from close range in half.
