I noticed a listing on ebay, it was a signed copy of Spectacular Spiderman #222 signed by Sal Buscema, but to be honest, I've never heard of him.
Is he a collectable name? Not sure if I'm allowed to post the link, so mods feel free to edit this post if I can't! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...STRK:MESELX:IT Thanks in advance :) |

The guy's a legend in the industry and I've loved a great deal of his work ever since I was first exposed to his art (which I initially thought was ugly at first but grew to really like it).

Co signed. Sal Buscema is a legend,i for once always liked hs work. I think he have a great style to drawn action scenes and his Spider-Man and Hulk are some of the best versions of those character i have ever seen. I do remember a artist which artist i thought was ugly at first but grew to like the art as well, that would be Gil Kane.I can not say i was the bigest fan of his art when i first saw his stories, but now i do admire his art.

I'll allow the link as it illustrates your point (I assume you're not the seller.)
To answer the question... Sal Buscema is the younger brother of John Buscema, one of Marvel's all-time greats (he'll be on pretty much any top five list of Marvel artists.) While he prefers to work as inker (where you can see his current work in the Spider-Girl comics), he is a talented illustrator in his own right, and an all-time great on Spider-Man (oddly enough, the one character his brother never quite got the handle of.) And from everything I've heard, he's a hell of a nice guy and an absolute professional. According to wikipedia, Buscema also acts in local community theatre. He was recognized for his portrayal of Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof, in which he appeared at the Little Theatre of Alexandria in the summer of 1998.

Sal Buscema is one of the sturdiest of bricks upon which the House of Ideas was built.

Agreed, Sal Buscema work in Hulk was great. And his work in Spectacular Spider-Man was very good as well.

I always had a problem with the way he drew women's faces.
But that was it. |

And he knew how to tell a story in panels like few others, better even than his brother possibly. Always picked the right shots.

DeMatteis+Buscema = Perfect pair. His art fitting so much with JMD's stories, with all those facial exprecions. He is amazing, I love him.

"Who is Sal Buscema?"
(Big sigh, puts head in hands...) I'll be honest, though, I was on kind of a break from comics during the Spidey run most people are referring to, but he did do the art on the greatest (pre-Brubaker, at least) Cap run, namely Englehart's, a classic run on the Hulk, and the greatest run of the Defenders (Gerber's). |
