Default A man with the strength of a gorilla vs. a gorilla

The gorilla is an adult male weighing 400 lbs.

The man is 30 years old and posseses an average build. He has had no MA training, and hasn't been in a fight since high school. His strength and durability have now been boosted to the same as the gorilla. How does he fare?

He wins due to superior thinking, and thus much superior fighting skill just from that, and opposable thumbs.

Clear cut for the human, I'd say. It's got better reflexes and is much more coordinated, not to mention smart enough to go for soft tissues, such as the eyes, genitals, etc...

The gorilla still has the reach edge, however, plus teeth that actually can be used as weapons.

I take the man begins unarmed, but can he take anything from the environment to use as a weapon?

If strength and durability is equalized, more like a mentally retarded man vs. one with regular intelligence.

Sure, the reach and teeth will help, but not as much as actually knowing how to fight (yes, even with no MA training).

Overmaster has a point about what the Gorilla still has for possible advantages in this fight.

The enhanced Gorrila-Man by a slight margin though IMO.

I'd say it's a 60/40 favoring the gorilla. 'Knowing how to fight' is not too much of an issue because an angry animal also instinctively 'knows' how to attack, and intellect only can take you so far when you have nothing on your hands to work with.

Now, if the man can retreat even if only for a very short while and take and use something to attack, then odds should go up a lot for him.

I don't see why the man is automatically more coordinated and skilled by the OP's stips of no training and hasn't been in a fight in over a decade.

It ends up being like a fiht between two drunks at a bar could go either way but I'm going Gorilla 6/10 due to the teeth.

No, not really.

Imagine, a drunk guy vs. a normal guy.

Yes, the gorilla has the reflexes and coordination of a drunk. The intelligence even less so. And is physically and mentally incapable of certain actions simple for a human (something as siimple as crossing your forearms over your face to protect against a blow).

What's more, your ONLY advantage is reach, not teeth, as gorilla's typically don't bite anyway.

So it's basically a drunk, staggering, mentally retarded dude, with poor coordination, with around 8 inches more reach, against an equal man of normal intelligence.

The human gets 7, maybe 8 out of 10.

And it's still a better fighter than a gorilla. (a man has the sense to protect his face and privates, for instance)

And correction, one drunk and another completely sober.

The human collapses after awhile because his legs are no longer strong enough to support himself over long distances?

Gorillas have a lot better upper body strength, but their legs are actually weaker than a human being.

I say the gorilla.

The average male does not know how to fight. Having superior intelligence does not really help in a street (or jungle) fight because most rational thinking capability goes out the window for untrained, inexperienced people once the fists fly. It's easy to say go for the eyes, go for the genitals, go for soft tissue, go for the standing rear naked choke when you are watching on the sidelines, it's a different story altogether to do it when your body is pumped full of adrenaline and a gorilla is actively trying kill or maim you.

Gorilla may not be able to do calculus or watch and learn from UFC youtube clips, but it's been living by the law of the jungle all its life. The average human male has never been in a life-threatening confrontation.

Plus OP did not state that the human has had his speed or stamina enhanced.

Sorry fellow homo sapiens, but I think our younger evolutionary siblings take this one.

Neither has the gorilla.

What do you think those animals are exposed to?

I think the Gorilla berserker mode gives it the win here.

Going with the gorillas.

Big ass fangs, much familiarity with combat seeing that male gorillas reguarly play wrestle each other, plus opposable toes for extra grabbing.

OP didn't SAY the man was any heavier than usual, he just got Superstrength.

So he should be as good as he ever was.
