Default Hanging flags - etiquette

Is a sports banner considered a flag? I have an NFL team banner that is 2' x 8'. I want to hang it outside on the house, but I can't decide where to locate it based on the American flag we hang by the front door. Etiquette is to hang other flags lower than the US flag, but I can't find if a sports banner falls under those guidelines.

I woud say fly it under the American flag if you're flying both, just to be sure. I seem to recall from various areas that the American flag always takes precedent over other flags. I'd say that qualifies for sports banners as well.

You could always just seasonally suspend displaying your country's flag and display your team banner in another spot. I'm doing something similar for Halloween. (a big US flag on your porch doesn't exactly say "Trick or treat."
It isn't like you are a post office or something and have to display it all the time. My opinion is that if you display it at all (correctly) that qualifies you as patriotic, and a few days off won't hurt anything. Just be ready to hoist it back in place in case we're invaded or something.

Going off on a tangent for a moment, as a Brit I've always found it a little strange at the amount of homes in America that seem to have the national flag flying outside, something that happens rarely over here.

There is a house just up the road from us which has the St Georges cross flying outside, and the St Georges cross painted on the roof, and the English Rose painted on the front of the house. As a result, the owners are treated with a touch of suspicion, due to their overt display of patriotism.

Then again, we Brits treat any overt display of anything as grounds for suspicion.

It's because we're the goddamn rulers of the free world and you're not any more, ya damned limey!

And to be sure, there are some of us here who view overt patriotism with the same suspicion.

wow that IS rather odd.

People don't generally hang Australian flags here unless it's Australia Day or some such thing happening.

A number of Americans are quite stupid and, consequently, place a great deal of value on meaningless symbolic gestures.

I don't think it's to do with stupidity. American's and Australian's are very patriotic, English people not very much at all. I have lived in England for a good part of my life and I can never really remember anyone promoting "British made" goods.....whereas in Australia the branding is "Proudly Australian" on promoting food and retail items.

I think it's good to have a sense of pride about the country that you live in.

Ahh, give it another 200 years and you'll realise the job is not all its cracked up to be, and you'll palm it off to the first wide eyed juvinile nation that comes calling.

Meaningless to the tune of £179.3 million quid that the crown generated, through tourism, for the treasury each year.
