Default X-Men: First Class Wants To Emulate Harry Potter

I dunno. I think in theory, a fun kid-oriented X-Men movie could be cool. But not a fan of the screenwriter....

I think it sounds pretty good. I'm not sure how I feel about "getting into mischievous adventures that Xavier wouldn't approve of," since he should be sending them out on adventures, but I'd be willing to see how it actually plays out in the movie.

The thing that worries me is describing them as "bad kids," since the last time Shuler discussed the movie publicly she said the cast would be Cyclops, Jean, Beast and Storm, and that's not a good descriptor for any of them.

Overrall though, Josh Schwartz has done a lot of stuff I like and he seems like a good fit for angsty young mutants. This is the one potential X-Men movie that is about characters I really love, so it's the one I'm looking forward to the most by far. I'm going to stay optimistic. I do hope they take some cues from the X-Men First class comic book though (especially in the characterization of Jean), which was absolutely wonderful.

I hope I'm wrong, but I have this horrible feeling we'll all be longing for the days of Vinnie Jones yelling "I'm the Juggernaut bitch!" when this movie comes out

Actually, this goes back to one of the things I really liked about the first X-Men movie: that, for the first time ever, Xavier's school actually seemed like a school and not (or at least not just) a cover story for super-powered shenanigans.

I've never been able to look at Xavier's school the same way since Garth Ennis gave us John Godolkin.

There is an interesting interview where Ryan Reynolds basically says that the Fox execs wanted to go the Marvel Studios route of sticking to the comics. Hopefully they'll do that for this movie.

Speaking of Reynolds, any word on that Deadpool movie lately? You KNOW that would be genius

Last thing I heard was Reynolds blowing off rumors that he wasn't going along with the project. According to him, both Deadpool and Green Lantern are still in pre-production.

Josh Schwartz?

Got to be MILES better than the guy doing every OTHER superhero screenplay these days--Akiva "Franchisekiller" Goldsman.

Looks like we're getting Wolverine 2 before Deadpool. That sucks...

Bad Kids?

If this doesn't involve a younger wolverine I don't see it happening.

At least not as generally portrayed.

I guess doing Cyclops as a dickish youngster wouldn't be too out of line, but he was something of a follow the rules kind of guy and shy back in the day.

Does every portrayal have to be "exactly" the same? No but I wonder how close it would be to the general showing of Cyclops. Of course if its based on Movie Cyclops I have no idea exactly how he might have been as a kid.

Beast: Sarcastic, smart and likes to use big words

Ice Man: Constant joker with self esteem issues

Jean Grey: Well mannered attractive chick with a dark side

Prof. X: Older teacher that is perving on one of his younger students?

If this is set in the same universe as the movies I'm going to have trouble suspending the disbelief that they are relatively unknown, them and mutants in general if they have some serious hardcore adventures.

Iceman isn't going to be in First Class, and neither is Wolverine.

He's from "The Boys". Basically he's a parody of Charles Xavier but Ennis got a LOT of dark humour over the idea of what KIND of man might want to take in a bunch of kids and force them to dress up in tight spandex. So yeah...he's the superhero worlds answer to Gary Glitter and Michael Jackson
