Default Black Widow: Give Her a Ongoing

With the Black Widow's latest mini set to begin next month, I went back and reread all the mini's I already had. From "Itsy Bitsy Spider" storyline where first meets Yelena Belova to "The Things they Say about her" By Richard K. Morgan, and everything inbetween. Each one fantastic and really showing Nat at her best.

And it hit me, why don't we have a Black Widow ongoing. I mean we are constantly getting redo's of Moon Knight, Black Panther, Ghost Rider, heck even Ms. Marvel! But never the Widow. She is usually regulated into supporting roles and I think she could really do great on her own. She has already built up somewhat of a supporting cast when it comes to the likes of Nick Fury, Phil Dexter and Sally Anne Carter, and even a frenemy in Yelena Belova(Barring her upcoming Thunderbolts stint).

Do you think it could work on the same level as other Marvel ongoings or would it be more fitting under the Max imprint? Years of experience and plenty of stories to be told. I always love seeing Nat go undercover, getting her hands dirty, shooting people and throwing grenades in their laps. And I would love to see it on a monthly basis. And with her profile definitely on the rise with Scarlett Johannsen playing her in the upcoming Iron Man 2 movie, it could be a possibility.

Personally I would love to see Diggle, Van Lente, or maybe depending on how he writes her in the mini Cornell take on the task. With Lark or Sienkiewicz on art!

What do you all think?

I think it depends on how well the mini does.

They aren't just throwing it out for no reason. If it does well then they'll launch an ongoing. Especially with the tie-in to the film this is probably the best time too.

Thats what really started the thinking. The two mini's she has coming out Deadly Origin by Cornell and Black Widow and The Marvel Girls starting in Dec, plus the movie promotion. If there were anytime to launch an ongoing it would be now. Her recent stint on Thunderbotls hit home too. It was the second time Nat had impersonated Yelena and go undercover and I would love to see more of that. Her taking people out and effectively replacing them and getting the info she needs.

And I want to see more things like this:

I am not a big follower of Natasha, and I am not sure how well it would sell. I am planning on getting her upcoming mini though.

Female solo-focused books never are around for that long, sadly. She-Hulk? Canceled. Elektra? Canceled. Ms. Marvel isn't really lighting up the charts either.

I don't really follow She-hulk so I can't comment. I attribute the Ms. Marvel sales to her just being awful though.

Thanks to her appearances in Captain America i have come to like her quite a bit. Plus all her other appearances recently has been pretty good too. Ill definitely be picking up her mini. An Ongoing? Well, lets see how the mini turns out.

She's been great in Iron Man. Depending on the writer/artist I might give a Widow series a shot.
