Default How do you store your comics?

how do you store your comics?
Post here with pictures if you can. I am looking into a new system. I am thinking magazine files on a book shelf with a cool 'spine' glued on the front, the idea to make them look similar to a TPB and making them much easier to get to. Right now I have TPB's/hardcovers on a shelf and monthly's bagged/boarded and stored in short boxes in my bedroom. There is about 17 boxes stacked 4 high, and my wife thinks they are pretty ugly. They are sorted by title, the majority being bat-titles (about 20 years worth), then a few old runs like Scout, The Invisibles. There is also the 'Vertigo' box. In the living room I have an old neat looking fruit crate on a book shelf with current stuff. It can hold about 200. So what are you guys doing with yours? Any suggestions that are cheap and attractive? Thanks. -R

Your idea sounds good. I would go with that. In fact I might just steal that idea.

Oh....my....God. I just started doing this exact thing a few weeks ago. The only problem I have had is with the magazine racks. The comics kind of float around since there is so much extra room, I am thinking of making something to wedge in there to hold them steady like maybe in the front boxy thing "advertising" what is in that rack. I have been playing with printing the title of the book with the issue numbers. That way, the whole book shelf would have some sort of art and if someone wanted to read they could just take the whole rack. I have been thinking about this because my TPB's are just too damn pretty to keep in a cardboard box. I fear they may feel unappreciated. I also had to shop around to find a book shelf that would fit the magazine racks. I'm still playing with it. Let me know if you come up with anything that works better!!

I keep my TPB's on a bookshelf, and I have my floppies either boarded/bagged in longboxes, or put in a plastic container (since I haven't gotten around to getting those bagged/boarded and don't have any more longbox room).

I stack them as I would magazines.

My comics are in a mix of long and short comic boxes, and one day soon I'm going to have to sort them all and cull the herd. Things I bought for a while, but never got into (like 100 bullets) will go first, then I have tougher decisions to make.

i only use plastic bags to hold together comics in a series like each BPRD story line or as many as i can.. you can fit about 4-5 issues in each bag made for 1 issue. never use boards. why waste the plastic to store each individual issue?

I just put in a order for three dozen magazine holders. I look around and found some that were only 9 1/2'' tall, as opposed to almost all the other being around 12''. This way they will fit on my shelf well. They are also 4'' wide, so I figure close to 40 issues per file, possibly more if I double up the bags. I was concerned about the extra room you mentioned, I will probably come up with a wedge also. I may turn the files around so I have a large spine to put art on, and will protect them from fading better. Do you have a picture of your system I could see? I expect to get the files early next week, then work on them that weekend. I will let you know what I come up with.

No pictures. More of just a mess on my bedroom floor. You know, I think of myself as a rather clever person, but never considered flipping magazine holders around. Very nice suggestion.

@jlmoor
quick question, what magazine files are you using? The one's I ordered are discontinued, so I need to find some different ones. What are the dimensions of yours? I would like mine to be 11'' or shorter. Thanks.

I got mine from a garage sale type thing when an office building sent out of business. So they are the standard whatever size that are too big. The bookshelf shelves are adjustable in size to I just made them taller. Wish I had better news! I did not even know they came in other sizes.
