After watching JLU unlimited & reading some issues of the last Catwoman Series, As an Amateur Boxer I've taken a interest in the character of Ted Grant A.k.a. Wildcat that being said I know almost nothing about his origin & I haven't read many stories about the character, so I was Wondering are there any essential Wildcat stories that a fan should pick up? Suggestions are very much welcomed

He's a major player in the 1990's - 2005's JSA
and JSA Classified PLUS the current Justice Society of America. For a solo mini/series, I couldn't help you there :(

Batman/Wildcat
Catwoman/Wildcat JSA #10 There's a few Wildcat centric stories in JSA: CLASSIFIED as well. Don't know the issue numbers off hand. Check out GUY GARDNER: WARRIOR for the beginnings of his current characterization. He's not in every issue, but is a recurring supporting character. Check out the "Underworld Unleashed" tie-ins, especially.

JSA Classified 26-27 and JSA Classified 38-39 are both WIldcat centric.
Justice Society of America: The Next Age - Pick up the trade, it features Wildcat discovering his long lost son - Some really nice moments. And just the JSA run starting in 1999 in general, to be honest. All easily available in trade paperback form, Starting with 'Justice Be Done' and ending with 'Ghost Stories'. |

There's one scene in 'DC: The New Frontier' which features Ted Grant at the end of his career fighting Cassius Clay towards the beginning of his.
The inner monologue from Ted during the fight is excellent. I always thought Darwyn Cooke would write an awesome Wildcat story, between his Slam Bradley stuff and his King Faraday stories, he just seems to get that cool 1940's/50's two-fisted he-man thing. |

I really like the character but hate the costume.
Which is wierd, Considering Batman has pointy ears and superman has a spit curl, I just can't get into wildcat's headgear. It looks so stupid and the whiskers?. I do love the everyman take on him. He likes to punch things and ask questions later and he enjoys a beer or two
