Default "I don't know if I could tell a better Green Lantern story than Geoff is telling."

That was a quote from Jeph Loeb at Long Beach Comic Con this weekend.

........despite it being a quite supportive quote, I'll just let the quote and who said it settle in your minds and you can work from there...

So are we supposed to bash Jeph Loeb now? I know it's the "In" thing to do, but I haven't read any of his recent stuff. The worst thing of his that I've read is "Hush." It wasn't Shakespeare, but it didn't make me vomit blood, either.

His Marvel stuff of late (HULK, ULTIMATUM) has been decidedly..........well, beaten savagely by comic readers 'round these parts. Still sells really well, though, which is puzzling.

So given that critical assessment, I got a chuckle when he said "he couldn't write a better GL story than Geoff is," as comic readers seem overwhelmingly positive of what Geoff's been doing - and their sales are about the same on most parts, too.

Hush definitely was Shakespeare compared to his more recent output.

I think he's really trying to praise John for this. It didn't come out perfect, but he's giving the guy alot of respect. A downright good gesture.

He comes of as being rather full of himself.
Even if his recent work were good, even if he were Allan Moore good, he'd still come of as a pompous ass sayung that.

Of course, there might be context that the OP is not providing. It feels kinda harsh to judge a writer, even one as bad as Loeb, on a context-free soundbite.

LOL. I wish Loeb would have uttered a similar sentiment before tackling "Wolverine: Evolution".

That's why I added the "despite it being a quite supportive quote" bit. He was praising the book when he said that; he just happened to say that and I first thought he'd said "anyone," but......nope...

You know, that probably WOULD be good. And now that I want to see it happen, I realize they're both working for Marvel these days!
