Last weekend, one of the neighbors was having a garage sale so our family went over to see what good stuff we could salvage. One of the things that caught the kids' attention was a used wooden toboggan that the neighbors were selling for $10.
I told Kana that she could get it if she could bargain her way down to $7, which she did (she's pretty good at negotiating because she's used to trading her snacks with the other kids at school). $7 netted Kana and Hana a used tobaggan, and the girls were over the moon. The problem of course is that it still feels like summer in SoCal and there's no snow within a hundred mile radius at least. Since we've been in a drought for years who knows if there'll even be snow in the mountains next winter? Kana wasn't deterred though. She and Hana dragged the toboggan to the local park next to her school where there are some slopes. Koko went with them. An hour later, Kana and Hana came back giggling with delight, but Koko didn't look so pleased. Little wonder: both girls came back with their shirts and jeans smeared green and brown. Both outfits went straight to the laundry, but the stains are still there. Looks like this adventure might end up costing $50 in replacement clothes.

Small price to pay. The memories will be well worth it. And they have clothes to wear next time they want to go sledding.

Kana and Hana are planning on "hitting the slopes" again this weekend, heh. I hope there will be some snow up in the local mountains this winter. Then we can take the girls skiing for real. Taking the whole family to Colorado would cost more than we want to spend right now but the local mountains are doable if Mother Nature wants to cooperate. |

Don't know why you'd need to go to Colorado. There are good ski slopes in California and Nevada. We're lucky in that we have one of the best unknown ski resorts in the state about 30 miles to the south of us. |

We're just gonna have to see I guess. I'd like for the girls to get a chance to use the tobaggan on REAL snow!
