Default What did you think of Indiana Jones 4?

I looked but never found a discussion thread on this movie so i make one because im curious to hear what others thought of it.

I think maybe as a standalone movie it would have been ok. but as im a fan of the original 3 i think there aint nocomparison and 4 was inferior.

Allow me to offer up a few examples.

*spoiler alerts*

Indy is safe inside the almighty fridge when an atomic blast goes off

those crazy little monkeys who somehow know to fight the communists

aliens in an indiana jones movie, what the absolute f?

that crystal skull which was to control indy's mind and make him obey orders never actually works, at least in the 2nd movie, the Temple of Doom, when Indy drinks the blood that controls him, it works and gets the point across. and show these people were dangerous and why it was totally imperative that he get the stones of sankara back from the thuggees. In the 4th one, what was the point again?

Too much computer work (i forget what its called ) Ohyeah. special effects.

the movie was choppy. there wasnt a lot of flow. like one scene didnt really lead to another and make you go Ohyeah i get it .

thats just some of the reasons I didnt like the movie I think even if it wasnt called an indy flick but something else. I still wouldnt have liked it.

what did you people think of it?

btw i bought this movie, without watching it first. I was like well its indy and the samer bunch who made the first 3 its gonna be good right? to make a long story short i threw it away and i dont have a hope of getting my money - and 2 hoursof my life - back.

It wasn't bad. Honestly, I think people's expectations were too high.

It wasn't nearly as bad as it could have been, and I enjoyed it,

Were they now? After the previous three?

What I thought of it - Lucas should definitely only be an executive producer and toy with the special effects and leave Spielberg make the writing/directing decisions whenever he has the chance to work with his friend Steven.

Yes, after the previous three. They were great movies, but they weren't high art. Just fun adventure movies, like Indy 4.

I didn't like the previous three Indiana Jones movies, but I found the fourth one mildly entertaining.

Fun adventure movies with much better scripts, acting and overall execution than Indy 4.

I mean, Shia LaBeouf in this franchise?! Come on!!!

That was like Fox putting Orlando Bloom in Kingdom of Heaven in a lead role that was designed for Paul Bethany - just for additional teenage appeal.

And the X-Files story was facepalming.

Indy 4 was okay but i absolutely hated the overuse of CGI and greenscreen. A perfect example is the nazi jungle chase scene, if it was made 20 years earlier we would have got a glorious little chase scene like the other nazi tank chase in indy 3 which had a full outdoor set and felt much more exciting for it cue Indy 4 and we get a blatent greenscreen pap, over the top swinging on vines and a swordfight on hoods of cars.

The anticlimatic ending of the alien scene just did it for me.

There was never any feeling of imminent danger for the crew. Even the 3rd mummy did a better job with booby traps and excitement.

Oh well...what do you expect...we can't expect a 67 year old Indy to run away from an accelerating rolling boulder anymore can we?

I honestly didn't mind the alien part. They did a whole chariots of the gods angle and it fit with the ancient culture they were in. I thought it worked well.

Meanwhile, all the other complaints? Yeah, those parts stunk.

The problem with comparing the movie to the first three is that Skull is meant to be different. The first three were homages to the 1930s adventure movies. Skull was meant to be a homage to 1950s Red Scare monster and alien movies.

That said, I thought the movie was okay. I got what Lucas was going for in trying to be different from the other movies. I just think he made the movie a little too different. Indiana Jones, the character, works better in the world of adventure. He wasn't meant to be a science fiction hero. And that's what they tried to make him.

One of the worst films and biggest letdowns of that year. I hated it.

The ending was sooooooooo bad...sooooo damn bad. Plus, screw Shia Labeouf. He's a terrible "actor".
