Default The Batman story you would make

Lets say that for whatever reason, DC lets you plot/write one regular sized Batman comic. It can be in current continuity or its own. It can feature any Batman character and/or villain you want. It can even have a non-Bat/Gotham character make an appearance/cameo (in case you want to do a team up or something). You have complete creative freedom. And just for kicks you get to pick the artist too. Now, given the full go ahead to create the Batman comic you want to make, the question is, what story would you tell?

For my English 101 final, we had to write an extended definition essay about a word. I asked if I could do it as dialogue, and ended up writing a conversation between Scarecrow and Batman about the word "terror".

I would really like to actually write a story around that paper.

I've had a Batman Year zero type of story rolling around my head for months now. It's basically Bruce Wayne as a teenager learning how to become Batman, control his emotions, be a detective etc, with an underlying story arcs involving a Moriarty type of crime boss, having Bruce ruining his life almost inadvertly. But it would me more about how he went from orphan boy to Batman. I would call it ''The man formerly known as Bruce Wayne. Don't why yet, it just seems catchy.

Also I would explore the character of Henri Ducard more deeply. Try my best to make him a household name.

Something that involves entirely around an internal dialogue going on in Bruce's head with the aim of better understanding why he does what he does and what some of his true and deepest regrets and feelings are.

I'd write a story set between 1939-1954 and try to imagine Bruce and his rouges existing in that time period.

Batman VS Trebuchet!

Trebuchet was a Wealthy Heir to One of Bruce Wayne's Rival Companies. His Company Went out of Business, but He remained Wealthy, but now had a large amount of Spare time. To kill some Time he Buys himself a Trebuchet but eventually becomes bored of Throwing things into an empty feild. So He sets in up on top of one of his Many Buildings in Gotham, and Batman must stop his reign of Terror.

A story titled "Who Killed A Joker?" In which the Joker is murdered, Batman becomes the prime suspect, and it's learned that the Joker is not only alive but, just like the playing cards based on his namesake, has been using "perfect" doubles for years via plastic surgery, brainwashing, and recreating the incident which bleached his skin, which also partly explains his seemingly inconsistent behavior and his "multiple choice" history. As he would tell Batman "How do you know I'm not the original and just another double? What if it was someone else who crippled Gordon's daughter and killed Jason? What if I had actually been dead for years and it's just been a series of me's one right after the other?"

I'd like to see a Batman M, Terry McGinnis crossover.

just out of curiosity, have you read Batman Ego? that's pretty much an exact synopsis

I like this, especially featuring Ducard.

I'd think up something involving Aquaman and Bane. As a vigilante Batman lords over Gotham City through sheer force of will, King Arthur on the other hand is responsible for a whole planet by birthright, and President Bane is trying to make Santa Prisca a better place by enforcing his dictatorship and military rule. So basically something about the nature of power and authority between these three. And most of it would happen either underwater or in the tropical slums and skyscrapers of Santa Prisca

Seriously, because no, as a matter of fact I have not. I'm going to have to track it down and read it now though. Thanks for letting me know.

BTW, what were your thoughts on it?

I remember I thought of the "ULTIMATE BATMAN STORY!" as kid, I felt like a fanboy hyping up on Fruit Loops. "Batman would beat up this huge version of Killer Croc, then whoop Superman's ass with his kryptonite, then come close to killing the Joker but be stopped at the last minute, then have a sword fight with Ra's Al Ghul, and then have sex with Catwoman, and then they're would be a super awesome mystery with a mysterious mystery guy who's all poetic and stuff, and Clayface would totally pull a Jason Todd, etc"

Turns out Jeph Loeb and Jim Lee already did that.

I like it quite a bit. It's a concise and insightful look at Batman's reasoning and justification of what he does and it's very well put together in terms of art and dialogue. In terms of dealing with "regrets" there's only really one or two particular moments addressed in the book, one being the event the kicks off the whole story, but it's more about his fears and doubt and how he addresses these. The art is beautiful and very similair in tone to TAS. Also try and get the "Ego and Other Tales" edition with the Selina Kyle story included.

I always had an idea for a Batman story dealing with the fact he often stays up three or more days straight during a major storyline. The concept would start with him turning over the Joker or someone to the police and then be returning to cave in the Batmobile. Then things would get odd as Batman, so exhausted from staying up for several days and a long fight, actually falls asleep behind the wheel and crash. To make matters worse a a young girl gets slightly injured in the crash. From there the story would become about if his compulsive need to do everything, requiring him to stay awake for several days, is a good thing or not. Hopefully ending with him realizing that he can't keep doing it.
