Default Conan the Cimmerian # 13

Don't get me wrong, this is one of my favourite books. But I'm not diggin' the art and colouring lately.

Tomás Giorello's drawing is satisfactory, but for Crom's sake, José Villarrubia's colours lack something severely. There's no moodiness in them. Conan and his men are locked in epic battle and the colours suggest that they might as well be picking flowers in the country side. How I miss the early days of Nord...

I'm looking forward to Paul Lee's work in #15...

This is what I miss...

True, Nord was awesome. But I personally like the artwork in the current series just as much. I just read #13 a couple nights ago and was thoroughly impressed, as I have been with every issue of this series so far. I am looking forward to seeing the Kubert issue in a couple months, though. I think I read that it will be the first time Kubert has ever drawn Conan other than covers. Cool!

I don't mind the interiors so much as I hate Linsner's covers. Conan looks too much like Dawn/Dark Ivory/every other Linsner character.

Default I agree with Celticwarlord

Of course its totally subjective, but I like the Tomás Giorello/ José Villarrubia combo as much as anything that's come before in this series.

But I reckon one of the strengths of the old series was the wonderful array of guest artists that gave Cary Nord a break from time to time.... every guest seemed to be hand picked because they could add something special.

On that basis wouldn't mind seeing Tomás and José take a break from time to time. (If they wanted to do something in the "missing months"... I suspect there's a fair number of comics they could guest on, and substantially improve the art... I think they are terrific.)

That's a fine point. The issues from the previous series that dealt with Conan's early years, like Born on the Battle Field and so on, were a great way to add to the mythos overall and the change in artist gave it a different feel which helped to distinguish it from the main story. I brought up Nord because I personally thought that his art suited the story so perfectly. I'm glad to hear that somebody is enjoying Giorello and Villarrubia's work. Variety is the spice... so they say.
