I thought nobody could top Warren Ellis doing a book about bad guys, or, how to make bad guys look like monsters, but Andy Diggle did all that in this book. This was the most diabolical Dark Reign book of the bunch so far, and fits into a category all it's own, because of it. The duplicity, the wanton sadism, the twist and turns. I'm not really sure what I see is happening in the book. See that cover with Fury pointing the gun at Osborn. That doesn't happen the way it looks. At least I'm not sure what happens on the last page at all.
I thought I'd seen it all, in TBolts, with Ant Man and Paladan, but these two reach great depths in this book. They have two women at their mercy, this troop of 6 men, and they play them by dangling them throughout the story until they reel them in and torture them. This is how it goes: spoilers:
All the other TBolts books you can throw away, but this book, if Diggle stays with this, this will be a milestone in story telling. It made me sick reading it.

Another great issue, but I have to ask: how does this square continuity-wise with Captain America: Reborn? It seems like a pretty big editorial oversight, unless I'm a moran (which I often am).

Fury's obviously a L.M.D. No way Nick gets outmanoeuvred by Osborn. |

I wasn't really expecting Dark Reign to do this (for some dumb reason) but it really is getting sickening to read certain books.
People complain about DC being too dark, but............Jesus, Osborn wanting to film a woman's slow execution so he can dork off to it later? That's disgusting and turns me off to wanting to reasd THUNDERBOLTS ever again...

Everything has be after TBolts, at Yankey Stadium is resolved. That's got to be it. Didn't they just do this recently already? I remember someone looking down at the wires coming out of it's head.

Yeah it's dark and disturbing but this is a post Ellis Thunderbolts book. It's supposed to be disturbing. That means he's doing his job and wigging you out. Norman Osborne's a psychopath. Film at 11. |

Unless this is all part of some elaborate scheme on Furys part (which is entirely possible given how this books works), she's really off her game in recent months. She might as well save herself time and just move into one of Osborns cells. |

I love the Thunderbolts.
They are really setting up Songbird to be one of Osborn's big ticks similar (but on a smaller scale) to Spider-Man. I would love to see a team of Songbird, Nick Fury, Emma Frost, Spider-Man, and Hawkeye/Ronin take down Osborn at the end of DR.

This is the second time since ASM where an issue ends with Osborn putting a bullet in someone's head. Not really compelling anymore, is it?
Gotta say though, Diggle's TBolts is probably the only book that I can read in about 10 minutes and not complain. Great pacing and some truly evil character work. Mr. X is still annoying but I'm loving Scourge and of course Osborn. |
