Default Pixar & Marvel - What do you think they got excited about?

"When asked if there was potential for cross-polination between Marvel and Pixar, Disney said that Pixar’s John Lasseter has met with key Marvel creative executives recently and the group got “pretty excited, very fast.” Disney will look at all opportunities and thinks there are some exciting product that could come from this sort of partnership. "

Okay regardless of all the other stuff going on about the Disney takeover of marvel. This bit of news has also got me "pretty excited, very fast". As I'm assuming that somewhere down the line there's going to be a Marvel/Pixar movie.

So what do you think got them so excited?

I'm hoping they go cosmic with the Silver Surfer or Guardians of the Galaxy.

Or perhaps take a minor player in the marvel U and do something special.

Speedball the movie anyone?

I think its a bad idea. What made The Incredibles good was that it was both an homage and a parody of comic book super heroes right down to its blatant Fantastic Four ripoff. I don't see a straight ahead superhero cartoon working any better than the current superhero cartoons do as they appeal to a very niche audience.

I think there's a great chance that Pixar will end up providing amazing SFX for live-action Marvel films, as well as some possible totally animated projects.

I only found out about this like 10 minutes ago though, and my mind is still reeling.
I'd heard rumours about Spielberg being interested, several years ago. I honestly thought it would be him, or maybe Sony.

I'd love to see Pixar do an adult, Rated R, true to concept, animated feature of Howard the Duck!

...of course, the idea of Disney making a "Howard" movie is about as ironic as DC owning "Captain Marvel."

I doubt it was any specific character or property. They got excited because they're comic geeks and this is the kind of thing comic geeks get excited about.

That said, I think they'll have to step carefully if they plan on making full-on animated films with major Marvel characters, given that Pixar films (although enjoyed by adults) are primarily pitched at younger kids, an audience that the mainstream Marvel comics don't give much consideration to. It's going to be a juggling act balancing the more adult-skewing content in the main Marvel line against the bump in kid interest if the same characters appear in high-profile Pixar releases.

I personally don't see that happening. Despite Pixar's autonomy from Disney, the Pixar brand and name still represents family entertainment. I could see PG-13 but not R rated.

Just to add, I think Spider-Man and Runaways would make good properties for Pixar to tackle. Runaways especially since it's only a cult hit, but has the potential to be something huge with a little Pixar tinkering.

Infinity Gauntlet or Secret Wars type stuff could be pretty cool.

I feel like the top men at Pixar would be excited to work with a more off-beat Marvel IP, like Franklin Richards, Ant-Man, Silver Surfer, New Mutants (WARLOCK!).

That is, if there's not really a dispute with current film rights holders. I'm not sure if "animated film" rights and "film" rights are the same.

As far as I know, all of the cosmic properties are free except Silver Surfer (Fox, from the Fantastic Four license). It would be cool to put the Pixar spin on something like Nova or Quasar.

They could work it like Marvel Adventures--which is, in my opinion, some of the best material Marvel put's out these days.

Why Pixar? What's wrong with just Disney's own animation studios? Unless someone at Pixar wants a Disney property to do under the Pixar banner, I see no reason for it. Lasseter is head of ALL animation at Disney, not just Pixar. Let Pixar do their thing. Plus if anything goes beyind, Disney has other distribution and production studios for those.

I'm more interested to see how this is going to affect the comic books themselves. Will Disney Comics now start coming out of Marvel? How well will Marvel's more adult stuff sit with Disney's overall image?

We'd hope that Disney won't mess with Marvel the way Warner Bros. has pretty much left DC alone, but who knows? Is Disney's interest in the House of Ideas even remotely tied to comic book publishing or is it exclusivley about getting control of the TV, video game, merchandising, and film rights to the major characters in the coming decade?

It will be interesting to see how well the Spider does working for the Mouse.
