Default So, are we saying that Spider-Man should be Pokemon?

Spider-Man always stays the same, and it's assumed that fans run through a ten-year ASM cycle, get tired of it and move on out the back door, while little youngsters file in the front door, who don't know that Ash acts brashly, Pikachu doesn't want to evolve on to the next level, and Team Rocket always comically loses?

I see your argument...But can we find another comparison?

Uh, no.

I don't think that those that are arguing for the absence of the marriage feel he should NEVER develop or evolve, just that the marriage was not a development that helped the character and hindered storytelling. I disagree, but I don't think the people advocating for Peter to be single want Peter to remain in stasis indefinitely

I think Spider-man should be kept in a little ball and threw at monsters.

At which point we have to decide what Spider-Man's Pokemon name would be. I vote "Spideery."

No no. You can keep his name. That's just all he ever gets to say anymore. Just replace all his various lines and quips with "Spider-man! Spider-man!"

Although admittedly, it might be hard to keep his secret identity at that point.

I'm actually wondering what it would be like if all of Spider-Man's super powered allies and supervillains were turned into Pokemon and what they would be like. We'd have to choose new names for some of them, although Electro and Mysterio already sound like they are Pokemon.

No. I think you're confusing Archie/ the Weisinger Superman with the illusion of change/ lack of commitment to change, which is what some of us endorse. These two options are significantly different.

I remember this discussion, but not sure what you meant by the phrases. Does this = very slow change, combined with moving the pieces around the gameboard (so to speak)?

Evidently you believe Spider-Man can hang onto long time fans without them getting bored. I don't know, since I don't work in this business and don't have the practical experience in customer feedback.

Personally, I see Marvel as using a 'checklist' approach here, which I have mixed feelings about. It's good to know what makes your serialized character appealing, but it seems to me the approach can become redundant and mechanical really fast, and lock you into story settings.

How many are there going to be of his breed?

I'll first catch myself a spider-man because this race is the easiest to catch by fooling them, then I'll catch a deadpool & daredevil, later I'll catch captain america & Ironman finally I'll catch a thor making the "poke avengers"
Spider-Mon & IronMon will be best of friends then they'll fight each other then they'll forget why they fought and patch things back (too bad there isn't a tongue of disgust)

I'll later use these mon's to catch a hulk in the form of the professor (maybe start with the little one so catch him grey then let him evolve to professor) and I'll finally catch myself a galactus (I'll catch a surfer before the last one)

Is Spider-Man the only title you read, Mr. Noodle? Any other comics that you grab on a regular basis?

While I can't speak for Mets I can for myself on this subject.

They CAN hold onto long term fans... the problem is getting new ones.

I'll read pretty much anything I can get for free at my local library; and I used to collect practically everything when I was a teen in the 1970s. Even incredibly obscure Marvel titles, like The Scarecrow. But the comic shop in the local Big City is almost 40 minutes away, and it's dark and skanky besides.

But Spider-Man was always my #1. He holds a special place in my heart; kind of like how I felt about Charlie Brown when I was an elemenatry school aged child.

I stopped reading the Batman TPBs, because I felt they became way too gory, sickeningly gory.
