Default This Season Of Hell's Kitchen Is Nuts

I can't help it, I like this show. I normally hate shows with bullies, and regular people getting yelled at, but the chefs on this show are usually such repulsive human beings you can't help but feel they deserve it.

What's funny this season is to see how Chef Gordon Ramsey yell at these chefs even though his own restaurant empire is crumbling fast and he's been proven to be a complete creep in real life due to several recent scandals. So all his screaming about perfection and excellence seem to be him screaming at himself.

But man, a lot of oddball stuff has happened so far this year...a lunatic stands up to Gordon and wants to fight him in the parking lot and walks off the show, last season's star Robert (who had to quit for health reasons), is back and is acting like a goddamned lunatic, and on the first day, when they had to make their signature dish, one of the chef's tried to serve Gordon Ramsey a plate of biscuits and gravy.

It's hilarious this year.

Hell's Kitchen is absolute trash, and I've been watching it for the last several years. I've always amused myself by imagining that, when it started, Ramsay probably had high hopes for it being a serious contest with highly skilled participants, like Top Chef. But of course, this is FOX, so naturally it's an embarrassing, gimmicky, reputation-soiling trainwreck.

I LOVE Top Chef! Quite possibly the best show of its type out there currently. Top Chef Masters is equally as great.

You should watch the British version of Kitchen Nightmares. Gordon is a lot more likeable in that series. Especially The Great British Nightmare, which was a special he made that not only follows the normal (British) Kitchen Nightmares formula, but also serves to encourage people to eat locally, rather than at chains, to help their local restaurants weather the credit crisis.

I didn't know his restaurants were in trouble, or about the scandals, though. Can you fill me in?

Biscuits and gravy!? Oh I wish I'd seen that one, just to see Gordon's reaction. I'm guessing it wasn't positive?

He was involved in some sort of sex scandal. I don't know all the details, but I'm sure you can find it easily enough.

I do actually watch Kitchen Nightmares on BBC America, and enjoy it (unsurprisingly, it's much more honest, and less gimmicky than the American version). I don't even find him all that awful on Hell's Kitchen most of the time, though I never thought it would take this long for a contestant to challenge him to a fight. I mean, he's insulting a group of unstable people wielding knives. I kind of expected him to get a pan of hot grease to the face by now.

As for scandals, I remember something about him cheating on his wife. Not sure what else is going on in his life.

He was involved in a many years-long affair after portraying himself as a happy family man on his shows (and it's not his only affair, allegedly), and he got pissed at an interviewer and called her a 'dyke' and an ugly pig and more.

Sort of a douchebag. It's a shame, I rather liked him.

I've watched all the brit episodes of Kitchen Nightmares and I agree, it's a better show.

However, it's amazing how few of those restaurants survived...almost all of them were sold or went under and quite a few of the owners have nothing nice to say about Ramsey.

Not really that amazing. Restaurants go under all the time: even Ramsay lost one of his own, in Scotland. Plus, these are restaurants that are already in trouble. And don't forget Anthony Bourdain's rule of thumb in Kitchen Confidential: once the consultants come in, the restaurant is already done for.

About the only thing I like about Gordon Ramsay is that he played for my favourite soccer team, Rangers before he got an injury and ended up as a chef.

He is extremely rude and arrogant and I usually switch him off just as the opening credits are appearing.

I liked the first two seasons of HK, but after that I realized it's the same frickin' show every year. The same out-of-context quotes, the same crappy 'isn't this dramatic' editing, the same sad people putting up with abuse to try to achieve their dreams.
I also noticed how it's rigged; it seems like all the less qualified people get assigned the most demanding stations in the early weeks, stations they are not qualified for. (because the show needs DRAMA) The cooks that get assigned to garnishes or deserts in the early rounds have it easy, since service almost always gets shut down before they make it that far. Then the more competent cooks slug it out, while they get undermined by their fellow cooks and Gordo's assistants.

I always loved his Kitchen Nightmares . Even though as wiki shows that his advice and help doesn't help a lot of them at all , that show is always enertaining I feel.

Well I WILL NEVER! Be eating at his places, not that I could afford to in the first place...
