Default Runaways taking a break, or has it been canned?

I noticed Runaways was not listed in this month's Previews for October shipping. Is it just taking a month off, or is it a goner ? I did a quick search and found an article from June about lower-selling Marvel books (Runaways monthly issues currently do under 20 000 in orders, but then again it does very well in digest form and likely TPBs as well, not to mention all the critical acclaim--at least for Vaughan's run, and Whedon's delayed one as well, for some. Marvel likes the praise, but it doesn't keep a book from getting canceled).

Just wondering. I know a new creative team just took over with #11 and (I think) #12 was the most recent release. I'm a little out of the loop. I'm catching up, I stopped buying the book after Whedon's run because I was tired of the delays/forgetting the story. I loved Strangers in Paradise, but yes, I'm prepared for the possibility that I may not enjoy Moore's work here in superheroland, due to the overwhelming opinon of his work on the book and dissatisfaction with Ramos' style--I like Ramos' art, but maybe not for this title--thought Michael Ryan was the best-suited artist so far, nothing against the original, Alphona).

It's not listed in the November solicits either.

The last issue that was solicited was a double-sized issue. So it doesn't look good.

So it's very possible it was quietly cancelled. Whether there will be a 3rd volume? Who knows.

Quesada said a few months ago that they had a big annoncement for the new creative team, but weren't gonna do it for a bit, in response to a question about who was coming on board as the regular writer since Moore was leaving.

Assuming that hasn't changed, I'd expect a new creative team and Vol. 4 launching in early 2010.

The November Order Lists are out though. And it's not listed.

The book has been downhill since BKV left anyway. Whedon's run was meh.

The new creative team he was talking about was the Strangers in Paradise writer that picked up with #11.

The rumor was that they would wait until BKV has time to write it again.

The STRANGERS IN PARADISE writer was Moore, who started with Vol. 3 #1 and finished with #9.

V1 #1-18 (BKV)
V2 #1-30 (BKV & Whedon)
V3 #1-14 (Moore, Immonen)

Does seem to be cancelled, though a back-up would be awesome.

Cancellation is no biggie - Runaways has been canceled twice already, that's why it says Vol.3 on the tiny text on the inside of the book on the recap page. It's likely another relaunch in a few months as Marvel let a bit of breathing room happen after the sales dip to rebuild the brand a little by distancing it from an unpopular run by Moore. Traditionally, they leave a minimum of 3 years after something fails badly in sales, but Runaways is breaking even on monthlies and selling well as trades, so it probably won't be the two year gap we saw between V1 and V2.

Personally, I think it might be an idea to let it drop for a while and concentrate on an alternative teen title, as fandom is never done bitching that it's BKV's title and no-one else will ever be as good. Fair enough that's their opinion, but it's not a healthy attitude for fans to have as a collective toward a property that's always going to be the work of many hands - Garth Ennis has pretty much done the definitive Punisher run, but the title has to move on if it is to remain profitable, just as Runaways fans have to move on and accept that BKV makes an awful lot more cash now than he did when writing a comic book that was losing readers even when he decided to go write Lost instead.
Plus, it's entirely possible that Runaways' time in the sun has simply passed and the sales dip isn't really due to the creative shake-ups and negative fan opinion. The wider audience might just be tired of it and a shrinking core fanbase is all that's left.

Digital distribution might be the way to go.

Im Cool if t's cancelled. To me "Runaways" has always been a series that at some point would need a Definitive end. So The Characters could grow up, and go on their on seperate Path's.
But The Ending of this volume is obviously not the definitive end.

I don't know if Vaughan still feels it was the right idea to leave before it went sour, maybe he wants to come back, maybe he doesn't. The book's low quality now and selling quite low, but if the digests still sell, perhaps they could stop releasing monthly and just do digests/ TPBs from now on.
Or if it has to die, Vaughan should just write one last mini to give it a nice ending, let the characters move on.

But who knows. Maybe if the film ever really happens it'll spark some new life into the title.

I have to say I'm a bit sad right now. I actually liked Immonen's issues and felt the series is finally becoming good again, and wanted to see what's next for the kids. and Runaways was what got me into comics, so I can only hope that we'll see the series contined in some way.

So theyre ending it with a Resurection........ No matter how I think about it that just seems like a terrible plan.

I think everyone's making assumptions right now about it being canceled. Until I hear or see something official, I'm taking its absence in Previews with a grain of salt.

Is the movie still in the pipeline?

If so, I'm sure it will be back before then....
