Default Catwoman: Batman's "One True Love"...or his most Overrated Girlfriend?

Bruce and Selina. This is far and away, as far as fans are concerned, THE ultimate Bat Romance

However, the problem for me is, its starting to look like DC believes it too...

Yeah, I know about Earth 2 Batman and Catwoman...but, frankly, IMO, the only reason he was married off was because he wasnt THE main Batman anymore...not only that, but between selina, linda page, julie madison, and batwoman...was there ever any doubt who Golden Age Bruce would end up with?

The great thing about Batman is that he dosent have a Mary Jane Watson or a Lois Lane. Depending on the decade, you could lay claim that a certain lady was "The One". In the 70's, Talia or Silver could've taken that title...whereas Selina seemingly rarely showed up, at least not until the end of the decade. In the 80's, it was Selina, or Alfred's relative Julia (However short that was), or the returning Vicki Vale. In the 90's-Early 2000, we had Vesper and Sasha, each good love interests in their own right.

Then... Hush happened...and Bats and Cats were paired together. To be honest, little happened besides Bruce revealing his idenity. The relationship barely got off the ground before it ended. After that, Selina became Bruce's booty call....

So with all that in mind, how the hell do we get to "Heart of Hush", and now Selina was "The only one that had Bruce's heart"?

IMO, Nothing in Modern continuity supports this...in fact, before Hush, the only time Batman and Catwoman had a full on relationship was shortly before the end of pre crisis...40 years after she debuted. And for another 20 years, they wouldnt have a serious relationship...

Now, it was ok when fanboys said "Selina's his soulmate!"...because, lets face it....we're fanboys. But when DC starts believing that too, there's a problem. Sorry, but Post Crisis, Batman has had more serious relationships, IMO. And its worrying that DC believes the hype...because it seems like the deck has been cleared for selina and selina alone.

Talia, possibly the only other woman who can lay claim to being Batman's soulmate is now being portrayed as a psychotic bitter ex girlfriend/Baby Mama. Jezebel Jet we all know about. A potential Wonder Woman relationship was squashed. Vesper's dead. Silver barely appears, and will probably never be seen again due to Marshall Rogers' untimely death. Sasha far from the Batbooks now. And does anyone else find it strange that Dini, the man who loves Zatanna most, unceremoniously wrecked a potential relationship between the two...and then gives us the forced "Heart of Hush" ending with Bruce and Selina? I'm sorry...i wanted to see Bats and Zee...especially written by Paul Dini.

Anyway, I digress. My fear is that ultimately Bruce will end up like Clark: Tied to Selina Kyle's apron strings (Or Cat O Nine Tales), with half of Batfandom wishing for the days when Bruce played the field.

I wouldn't worry about it too much if I were you. Batman's relationships will always ebb and flow depending on what relationship is getting a push from DC . Nothing will ever be permanent.

With Zatanna and Wonder Woman, I think it's largely a matter that women with literal world-shaking power are something of an ill fit into Bruce's world on a long-term basis. Imagine if Bruce is hanging out with Zatanna and there's trouble in the city, he doesn't even have to get in the Batmobile. Really, he doesn't have to do much of anything except watch her back.

I always saw Bruce and Selina's relationship as being more along the lines of 'friends with benefits'. I can see them hooking up for a good time when they aren't in steady relationship, but nothing more. Besides Selina said she likes old guys.

What's not to understand? Catwoman either has a 'Daddy' complex or finds guys around her age and younger immature (though I liked the fact that she flirted with Nightwing). She's not the first woman who likes older men.

I like Bruce to play the field and I don't think that DC will ever tie him down. I like Superman being married and was a big proponent of the Spidey marriage who quit Spidey comics shortly into Brand New Day. But I do not want to see Batman married. I like the fact that Batman has a twisted relationships with Selina and Talia. I wish they were explored further. I also like the Zatanna romance. I actually don't mind Bruce dating Zatanna but having stronger feelings for Selina. He can never be with her because deep down she can never completely leave the criminal life behind while Zatanna has strong feelings for Bruce which he doesn't reciprocate but tries to because she is heroic like himself. I never really did like the Batman/Diana relationship though. I think she'd be much more into Clark but I'm a firm believer that Clark's soulmate is Lois.

Batman Returns had some of the best Bruce/Selina love moments.

I think that the part of the reason he will never be with Selina, is that she's a free spirit who would rather not be tied down (not to mention the fact that she has issues she has from watching her parents disastrous marriage), and she's not the woman to settle down with.

well, really, she's getting up in age herself. It's not like she's a teen or anything. I think, reasonably, she's in her mid to late 30's.

that's why I like Selina's Big Score depiction of her.

I meant I don't understand why DC would do that to her character. She wasn't like that pre-1985, was she?

Any case, if she has to be that way, how about ... Jason Blood? I know he's also a kajillon years old but so mysterious and dignified. Much better choice than Wildcat or Slam (yuk to both!). I'm really liking their series in Wednesday Comics.

I think Selina likes crusty old men who have led dangerous lives. They add some flavour and excitement. I actually prefer it if Selina stick to seeing men who are dangerous. Jason Blood is too staid. Though I still would love it if she hooked up with Nightwing. Nightwing #52 was one of the most enjoyable comic books I have ever read.

With him being Batman right now, that could be sufficiently weird. I like it.

If you follow the course of their meetings you can see the progression of their...romance. I don't think it was forced upon us come Hush. I like it. A lot, in fact. Then again, I may be biased 'cause I also think Selina is the most gorgeous comic book character of all time. Why wouldn't I want Bats to semi be with her? She's got purfect personality. And it's great chemistry. Someone so incredibly free-spirited and someone incredibly stoic.

Catwoman thing is vastly overrated to me and i have enjoyed reading much more when he met other women who were normal, not a vigilante or a criminal.

I like it that he does the player role and suddenly meets someone who isnt gone after an issue. Like Bodyguard with Vesper Fairchild,Sasha.
