I am about half way through the game so far, yet it is already clear to me that Alex Mercer is a freaking monster.

He can sprint around at nearly car speeds, leap and glide his way across the city and is supremely strong. The dude can scale small buildings while carrying an APC over his head. He can casually toss cars up into helicopters, and when he has his shield ability, he can bulldoze his way through traffic, knocking vehicles this way and that.

He can survive being shot point blank by assault rifle fire (easily) and can get knocked around by rocket launchers and tank shells and not be to messed up afterwards.

He can also consume living flesh of his enemies for a quick health boost, and he can shapeshift into the people he has consumed. He also gains the memories of who he consumes.

Hammerfist ability gives you enough striking power to obliterate military tanks, and various other abilities add to his sensory capabilities and range attacks.

The dude is a beast. Who is the toughest opponent he could take?

I've played a little bit of the game too, and I remember thinking that it would be fun to see Spider-Man and Alex Mercer duke it out in downtown. Alex Mercer being a slightly less ugly version of Carnage and all.

I thought that as well...at least initially. Really the fact that he can smash tanks to peices and throw cars over buildings all the while shrugging off rocket launcher fire makes me doubt Spiderman could ever handle the guy.

He would probably just consume Parker.

Now Alex Mercer vs. Carnage...that would be a close fight IMO.

Eh, I am not sure that the consume option would work on someone as durable as Carnage. The toughest things I have consumed so far are the Hunters...and they dont really compare.

For some reason I see Alex meeting/fighting Swamp Thing. Not only the whole superstrength + shapeshifting thing, but because spoilers:

"Alex Mercer" is really a shapeshifting virus that thinks it's the real Alex Mercer the way Swamp Thing's a plant elemental who used to think he was Alec Holland.

Which isn't exactly beyond what Carnage can do, since last I checked he was considered a Class 50 around here.

So strength is equal, and I'm not sure what Carnage's speed feats are.

But Mercer has a whole host of other powers that Carnage doesn't have.
