I'd say that's probably one of (if not THE) best Joker story ever. Blows Killing Joke right out of the water.

While I enjoyed Hamill's act in the "domestic bliss with Harley" bit, I enjoyed the "I'd laugh if it wasn't so pathetic" bit more. Even Hamill's Joker was more interesting the more sinister they made him. The goofier they made him the less interesting he was for me. I'd don't want to hear about whoopee cushions, or the like. The truth is, from my memories of watching BTAS, I remember Harley more than I remember Hamill's Joker. (Largely that's probably a function of age. I'm far too young to actually remember the original series when it ran on fox. I was born in 89, I remember the new adventures most vividly.) It's only now watching it again that I've grown to appreciate it. Hamill's Joker entertains me most in episodes like "The Laughing Fish" "Be a Clown" ect. The more goofy joker just is not interesting to me in the slightest. I certainly don't want the Joker to literally tell Jokes, I'd prefer it to be all about very very dark situational comedy.

But again, it's largely a matter of taste. I just happen to find the prankster thief interpretation uninteresting.
But thats what i mean when i say the best Joker (imo) is the one whos emotional state and actions go back and forth. Jokers domestic bliss act in the space of a couple of minutes changed to an evil psycho goading Batman that he knew his true identity and the final "thats not funny" was perfect for him.

Jack Nicholson was the same he would dance to prince through a museum full of gassed patrons as he proclaims his "art" trye to seduce Vale then later smash a tv with a joke boxing glove and kill his most trusted henchman with his own gun and show (mock?) emotion as he tells his guys " I need a moment or two alone boys".

I would also hate a joker who just continuisly told jokes but i hate that that part of him has been worn away (in films and comics) and sneered at by some who say it is "childish" and seem hell bent on turning him into a standard psycho who just happens to wear clown makeup.

Come to think of it, who wrote that arc anyhow? Wonder if he did any other Joker stories...

Although, for sheer number of good Joker stories, Chuck Dixon and/or Paul Dini would top my list.

fair enough. i just happen to think that it was a mistake. and i'm glad that Nolan played homage to the original take. it kind of works better in live-action for him to be less 'clown' and more 'scary unpredictable terrorist hiding behind a clown guise.'

J.M. Dematteis

Which... really it's his only story of note for Batman.

I think I am in a minority when I say I don't like Going Sane in the least.

I think they DO tend to draw him in the psychotic looking state he's in.

you'd think a guy with purple mustache and eyebrows would give him away! Not like it was common back then.

And for Heath's look, I mean Batman is looking for the guy who has a major mouth deformation on both sides of his face, and if the Joker wasn't lying about that happening as a child, to save his life there may have been medical records on it. great work, detective!

He also wrote both Batman/Spider-Man crossovers, Two-Face: Crime and Punishment, the first Daredevil/Batman crossover, and penned the JLU adaptation of 'For The Man who has Everything'.

The odds of Joker lying about his past at any given point are practically 100%.

Is that the Batman/Daredevil crossover where Batman is so good he can creep around without DD hearing him at all?.

The story was basic at best but that was a whole load of horse droppings, DD could hear almost anyone coming long before they came into sight range not only from thier movements but from the the sound of breathing, heartbeat or pulse.

Well, he does the same to Superman, a guy that's able to hear two cotton balls bounce off each other in a padded room in Alaska while he's in a cave in Australia playing a one man band.

just look at the scar damage it would appear that a non-professional stitched him up. i doubt there was a hospital visit.

As bad as those old stories were written, I very much enjoy the original Joker stories. Those first two. I was glad Nolan used a lot of that as inspiration.
