Whether Nolan wants it or not, a third films going to happen. If he won't do it WB will just get someone who will. And I wouldn't be surprised if they re-cast the Joker for it. I think someone like Johnny Depp would be perfect for the part

Ledger was great as the Joker, he was captivating and inspirational, but I do not want to see his character taken out of play. Yes, Heath Ledger is dead (god rest his soul), but that doesn't mean that the Joker should be dead. This is a movie franchise which WB intends to milk until the audience doesn't want anymore. The Joker won't be back in the third movie, that is obvious, it will also be Nolan's last movie in the franchise, but is it not logical to believe that WB will come back for a fourth, fifth, sixth, and etc. movie. The series will continue on and with the Joker, Two-Face, Ra's Al Ghul, and Scarecrow taken out of the equation already, WB has less of a list of MARKETABLE villains from the rogue gallery to work with. I expect to see the Joker back by the 5th or 6th movie and he will be played by Daniel Day Lewis (hopefully).

If they want to keep his presence known then used Harley Quinn. Even if it is just as the villian in the beginning trying to break Joker our of Arkham.

I think he's been mentioned before but Joseph Gordon Levitt is really rising up there in the "great actor" ranks and I think would be able to either do a similar performance to Heath Ledger's or can just as easily do something totally different. He also bears a striking resemblance to Heath at times which would only help how he would look in the Joker make up.

It was probably me who suggested it. Levitt is in Nolan's new movie Inception so maybe he will give him some serious consideration.

I hope he replaces Heath with him and does his original plan for a third movie.
