Default The "new" Black mask

Who do ya'll think he is?
I believe he's supposed to be a Batman villain masquerading as the Black Mask (read that in an interview I think... link anyone?)

In BotC #3, he referred to himself as "we" (thanks wikipedia!)
Which Batman villains do this?

The presumption is that he's not the original, because the original is supposed to be dead. Beyond that, it's just speculation.

I think Maxie Zeus used to do that, but I may be misremembering. In any case, he's supposed to be dead too. Some have suggested Two Face because of his duel personality, but I don't think it will be him. He's already active as himself.

Tony Daniel has said he is not Roman Sionis.

Beyond that, I have no concrete idea who he is yet. My blind guesses are Two-Face or Hush.

Here's the interview link

And I quote:
Quote:
The person underneath the Black Mask this time is different from the guy who died. His identity is a mystery to us for now, and we'll have to wait to find out who he is exactly. But he's a villain who initially, when I first thought of what I wanted to do with Battle for the Cowl, was a character that I liked, and I saw some great potential in him. Then we kind of cast him aside because we didn't think we'd have the room to have a subplot going on with the villains trying to take advantage of Gotham's weaknesses. When we decided we did have the room, we brought the character back into the equation, and I think he's a great enemy to bring into the mix.
Ugh...He's an afterthought....

So, reading between the lines, it seems that it's an existing villain, but evidently not anyone we've seen.

While supposedly the same character, the later Black Mask was quite a bit different than how originally portrayed in original Doug Moench stories both in the 80s and when he brought them back.

I'm wondering if they are going to play out that the crime boss during War Games was someone else.

You're certainly right about the difference. That would be an interesting touch.

I can see it being Two-Face. Would be interesting. Although that contains notions of TLH.

What if this new Black Mask was actually a female? I don't see no Adam's Apple.
