Anyway, I'm thinking it's Steph at this point too. The Batgirl fanbase is a fairly divided lot, and Steph taking up the mantle will probably piss off the least amount of people. Steph is a lighter character for those who thought Cass was too dark, and Cass fans tend to also be Spoiler fans. The hardcore "Babs only" fans are still going to disappointed though.

We "know"? Did I miss something? All I've seen to date is speculation based on the end of Robin. I'm not convinced that Steph will give up the Spoiler costume/name. She been told to give it up before by various people, yet she's still Spoiler.

We know it's "LIKELY". That inherently implies that its not a promised or sure thing, just that its the possibility thats being teased the most.

As I said, I'm not convinced on that one.

That does indeed narrow down some BG candidates, though I never thought it would be Squire or Wendy. I'm still thinking it's Steph, but I am glad to see Cass up on the board. That had better have a damn good explaination as to why she wont be Batgirl anymore, but mostly I hope they change their minds about de-cowling her.

I think they're tricky enough to not presume one of those four will take the role. I'm with Henker's supposition that it's a trick and Batgirl will be someone else on the board not under the Batgirl heading.

I don't think we're supposed to know who Batgirl is right now. I get the feeling the first story arc will be a "Who is Batgirl?" kind of deal.

Well, if it's not Cassie (and I don't think it will be), I certainly think the first story will transition from her to whoever the new person is. (After all, she does appear under "Batgirl" on the wall, so she has to have some connection.)

Yeah, Steph's starting to look pretty good right now, which pleases me,
But there's still time for DC to f*ck it all up...

Just a personal hunch, but I think that the Bat current editors and writers might reintroduce Stepanie as the new Batgirl. Now, I have little basis for this other than current solicits as a guess, but she may as well be Batgirl traveling the world with Tim as Red Robin when not in Gotham after the beginning. Despite my own desire to see Babs under the cowl again swinging from roof to roof in a new series that 'DiDio wants restored to the classic interpretation' for various DC characters, I think Steph was kind of thrown under the bus in recent years. With her being the new Batgirl under Bab's wise tutelage while Bruce is gone (and the right writer initially to gain interest in whatever title), I think she could do great.
I like Cass for who she is as Batgirl even if her recent turn was rather brutal, and would like to see Barbara as the title persona again, if not as Batwoman, but I could easily follow Steph if she were written right in the next year or so. She was kind of given the short end of the stick as both Robin andas her own costumed persona. She has more than enough exposure to comic fans for Bat titles, with enough personal history from her own lineage being Cluemaster's, relationship with the current Robin, filled the same cowl herself even though briefly, and her messed up 'death' and explanation for her whereabouts from Leslie Thomkins to shed light on it. Stephanie Brown has much to work with, especially if she is under the giudance of the original Batgirl. As I stated before, I wouldn't mind her trying to find her way in a new series as Batgirl. Of all the possibilities listed for this thread by others, she seems to offer the most potential for future spins, even after her current role has served its purpose imo.

Honestly, this has been the main conclusion of most people here for months (and in most of the previous posts in this topic too). That doesn't invalidate your intuition on this. It just seems odd that you phrased things as a declaration instead of as a continuation of the existing opinions already in this topic. |
