So you're saying that they'd eliminate all doubt that this is Knightfall all over again?

Don't worry. I have read Knightfall, and don't get it either.

I think he is referring to the fact that during Knightfall, Azrael(Batman's replacement during said story) refused to give up the mantle when Bruce was ready to return to being Batman. They eventually had a big fight with Azrael realizing that Bruce was the one true man to wear the cowl.

Dick would never stand in Bruce's way, he has too much respect for him. And he would certainly never go to the extreme of becoming an enemy.

Interesting scenario, though...

I've always wondered if DC had intended for a while to keep Jean-Paul as Batman.

They have always said no in reference to this question.

I seem to remember an interview with Denny O'Neil that made it clear that the whole Knightfall, Knightquest, Knightsend story was planned as a complete three-act story from the start, and that Jean-Paul was never intended to be a permanent replacement for Bruce.

Which makes sense.

One might add to that the fact that Knightquest: The Search (the story of Bruce's healing) began almost immediately after Knightfall ended.

And that the source of his healing, was already set up before Knightfall ended with the kidnapping of Shondra Kinsolving.
