Except that you seem to think that teleportation, either the bending of time and space, or transforming matter into energy and then back into matter, is a more viable thing technologically than hand held lasers.

Honestly, I can see alot of use for hand held lasers. Mass market no, but I'm sure plenty of artists would like to use them, they'd make great cutting tools for emergency workers, great for operations in general and the industries that currently use lasers would love anything that makes them more effective and less costly than what they have now.
