The art looks amazing and I am very interested in Renee's run as the Question in Rucka's capable hands. Two features..two kicking female leads....and a possible relationship angle thrown in with a very modern take. This is not your father's Detective Comics.

Seriously. There are a lot of good books coming out, but NONE have me quite as excited as this one. Greg Rucka working with JH Williams III and Cully Hammer on a book that will finally do something with Batwoman and continue to make Renee one of my favorite characters.

After Welcome to Oz there should be two more volumes ... making Denny's series a six volume trade collection, and since they've been coming out pretty regular, there's chances they'll be out before New Year (or shortly after it)

I'm really looking forward to Renee's backup feature in Detective Comics, but still... not a fan of what Hamner's doing here. He says he wants to get back the "classicism" of the Question's look. Well... he's referring to a different character. He's referring to the classicism of Vic Sage. This isn't Vic Sage and shouldn't look like him. Renee has already donned his mask and hat. That's enough. That is the Question iconography. It's not Vic's head-to-toe look. She doesn't need to take on the rest of his wardrobe too. It's a disservice to her character. She should look like her own person and not a post-op Vic Sage.

His feeling that Renee has a number of hats strikes me as wrong too. Where does that come from? I don't get it. I don't recall her being a big hat person in Gotham Central or 52. Wearing Vic/Charlie's hat makes perfect sense for the sentimental value and tradition of it. Developing a sudden hat obsession? That's not so strong on the sense. I don't know. Hamner's feelings on Renee's character sound less like actual interpretations of the character and more like justifications being made up to do the character designs he wants to draw.

All that said, I do like some of the other looks and am glad she won't be restricted to dressing like Vic Sage all that time. I'm getting used to the hair too. I wish it was a little longer than that, but I don't necessarily want to see a return to the long hair.

Just on the hat front ... Charlie had plenty of hats. Not that he owned or had a special "hat closet" or anything, but he wore whatever seemed the best thing for not getting noticed, blending in, or simple street level disguise. If a ball cap seemed like it'd get him into a place, that's what he'd wear. If it was cold he'd wear a cold weather knit cap (watch cap). Gotta keep those ears warm.

I believe that's what Hamner's getting at with the "Renee has lots of hats" comment. I can relate. I have like 20 hats, I wear maybe two of them.

As for the iconography of The Question, I agree that Montoya has plenty of modern, "I'm not Vic Sage" status and doesn't need to mimic his style. However ... just coming from a purely classic Question love ... the early Question art by Ditko is great, the earliest covers on the O'Neill run are legendary, and Denys Cowan's stuff is really evocative of a mood (a classic film noir mood, in fact), and there's no harm in harnessing the "style" of previous Question comics. Hard-boiled, pulpy noir has been sporting a suit and fedora since the days of Humphrey Bogart and there's zero reason to change that just to make something seem modern.

6 volumes would definitely cover the 36 issue regular series. There's also the 3 Annuals, including the 3-part "Fables" story that crossed over Detective Comics Annual #1, Green Arrow Annual #3 and the Question Annual #1. There's also 5 issues of the Question Quarterly, a short story in Showcase '95, the Azrael plus 1 Special and the Question Returns one-shot. Not sure if they'll reprint it all, but there's probably 2 trades worth of additional O'Neill material if they wanted to cover it all.
