Default A Nightwing Question...

Do villains and regular people and other heroes who don't know Nightwing's secret identity, know that he was the original Robin? I mean obviously people who know Robin was Dick Grayson realized that he became Nightwing, but do regular people and villians besides like The Joker and Two-Face know?

Two-Face definitely knows; it was shown in the recent arc. Not sure about the Joker.

It's impossible to make a hard and fast generalization on this one. By and large, I'd say that most don't know.

If you go by Wolfman/Perez era Teen Titans, it should be public knowledge that Nightwing used to be Robin. They were a very open team to the civilian world and it was always known that Robin then later Nightwing was their leader

Y'know, I was wondering about this question myself.

That's an excellent point. I hadn't thought of that, but in the Wolfman/Perez era, the Teen Titans did have a lot of public visibility.

How so? I didn't buy the arc. (Interesting if Harvey wouldn't be able to move from Dick Grayson is Nightwing to Bruce Wayne is Batman or closely working with Batman.)

Knowing the original Robin is now Nightwing isn't the same thing as knowing he is Dick Grayson, which is what Captain Jim was referring to, I believe.

I must not have been clear.

Well here how I see it

Batman ties to Nightwing is well known

That you know that Nightwing used to be Robin probably differ depending of the individuals

The Joker does know if I remember the Last Laugh storyline correctly.

I believe this constitutes an "in-the-know" type of situation. Like any "business" if you're a real player, you know the downlow. So basically, long term villains know, longtime cops, reporters, etc.

The super-visibility of the Titans seems to be one of those in continuity conflicts we just turn a blind eye to because it really conflict with the Batman ethos of "dark & mysterious."

Joker, while in an extended stint in Arkham, did eventually figure out that Batman has had multiple Robins and that the first one must've become Nightwing.

...and then, I believe, said something about how he wishes he could kill all of them.

Back in the Titans days, Dick would wear (a pretty horrible) disguise when out on dates with Starfire. He said - on more than one occasion - that he only protected his "secret identity" because of his ties to Batman. If people found out who he was, it would take about one second for people to figure out Bruce Wayne was Batman. Beyond that, Nightwing never had a need for a so-called "secret identity."

Of course, that was 20 years ago ... and it might have been retconned.

you misread it. Harvey doesn';t know he's Dick, he knows that Nightwing is the first Robin

The Joker knows besides the Last Laugh storyline, In Nightwing year 1, Nightwing goes to Arkham and confronts the Joker. The Joker picks up on the voice and knows that Nightwing was Robin.
