Default Dr.Simon Hurt = Thomas Wayne Jr. = Owl-Man ( Anti-Matter )

Grant Morrisson DID write both stories after all! In the Anti-Matter universe , the Waynes had 2 sons : Thomas and Bruce, and Thomas ( evil ) lived , while Bruce ( good ) died. Now the Matter-Universe is supposed to be the mirror version of the Anti-Matter Universe, so in this universe, the Waynes must also have had 2 sons, and it was Thomas who was supposed to have died , while it was Bruce who lived ( but since it appears that both survived, does this mean that Bruce Wayne is still secretly alive too in the Anti-Matter universe ? ) . As for the Devil imagery, in mythology, the Devil was originally Lucifer , the first son of God and general of Heaven, who rebelled and was banished from Heaven , and was replaced by Michael , the second son of God , as the leader of the Hosts .

Thumbs up

I like this theory. Bruce's long-lost half brother is a cool concept without the stupidity of bringing Thomas Wayne back from the dead. I approve.

I don't. Where is there any evidence for this in the storyline?

I think with Morrison it matters more that the evidence exists in the larger picture than it does in the storyline proper.

There certainly was nothing tying RIP to Final Crisis, and yet I read in an interview that for all intents and purposes, the RIP story will end in Final Crisis.

The tie-in is the follow-up story in Batman #682-683.

The idea of a Thomas Jr is something that I believe DC shyed away from no more than a year ago.
I'm on the opinion that the character Hush was originally supposed to be a half-brother to Bruce. There were heavy allusions to this when comparing the 2, not to mention Hush's real name being Thomas. There seemed to be a strong suggestion that Thomas's dirty secret (i.e. "Hush"), was out to get Bruce.
In one of the final few comics of Gotham Knights (around the time Hush made a return), the original solicit talked about something ground breaking that would change Batman greatly. Many assumed they were going to finally talk about an affair that lead to Elliot's birth. The comic started with the concept of Thomas Wayne having an affair, but very quickly backed down - ending in it being no more than hype. Given that it was a great distance from it's original solicit, I can only assume that this idea was dropped.

Having said that, there's a chance that Morrison wanted to revive this idea, but instead of complicating Hush's character further, he's instead used someone else to do it instead. Personally, I think it makes for a good story.

Well, I'm not in front of my issue right now, but in the RIP conclusion, did Hurt say he was "Thomas Wayne" or his "Father"?

Batman editor Mike Marts: "I would say that all signs are pointing towards Dr. Hurt not being Thomas Wayne."
