Default Nightwing #150 (Spoilers)

I have to say I'm a little disappointed with this one. After the somewhat shocking turn in the previous issue of Nightwing failing to save the day, this kind of reverts back to form with him just kind of doing it way too easy with no variations on a theme. I mean, given the intense personal connection between himself and Two-Face, the way they go out of their way to point out he's exhausted, this should have had a bit more grit to it. You never get the feeling he's pushing his limits or that his temper is fraying. Let me put it this way: even Devin Grayson did it better when she had an exhausted Nightwing facing off his entire rogue's gallery thrown at him (though not as good as Chuck Dixon when he faced off with Shrike). You could feel he was tired. Here, not so so much.

And if you're going to do by-the-numbers heroism, then give me a little "I want to kill you but I can't give in" because in this particular case that anger cliche would have been authentic. Unlike Bruce, Dick has no memories of Harvey Dent to restrain him. He only knows the evil of Two-Face, so at the very least he should have handed down a beat down more severe than Batman ever would have done. Two-Face's defeat doesn't measure up to the amount of havoc he wrecks on New York.

On the plus side, it was nice seeing Barbara Gordon show up to try and help him.

Overall, I've given Tomasi a great deal of time to prove himself and every time it looks as though he's getting there, he falls short. When the book comes back it's time to give someone else a try.

I also was a bit underwhemed by this issue. It was good but not great. And I have been really enjoying Tomasi's writing. I thought it was because I read the conclusion of Dini's Detective story which was amazing & by comparison this conclusion felt a bit boring.

I've been enjoying the few issues of Nightwing but this one fell apart for me as well. The art wasn't as good as it's been in the past either. Not much more to say then that.

The parade of blimps seemed very Silver Age to me, and not in a good way.

I thought the issue was very well written and it was a blast reading, but Harvey seemed a little off. In his intro in this issue, both the Harvey and Two-Face sides are talking to each other. Okay, sure, why not? It's happened before, so it's nothing new. But then all of a sudden, the Harvey side disappears and Two-Face seems to be in the front seat. The guy kills TWO people without even flipping his coin! That's really out of character. Maybe it would have seem a different development if Two-Face did do this and the Harvey side get pissed at this, but we didn't get it. And later with the fight against Nightwing, Two-Face was just plain evil throughout. I felt establishing that both sides were at play against each other, etc, was discarded completely at the end which would have made it an incredible arc. It was like both Harvey and Two-Face sides agreed that, yes, NY deserved to be punished for Nightwing's failure. <sighs> my Two-Face fanboy rant is over, my apologies.

But yes, still not a bad arc. I rather enjoyed most of it. Two-Face's plan was just scary, and man, imagine my surprise when he actually started dropping the acid on folks!

He choked him out. Its not even over. Two Face plays a big roll next issue too.

Well Two-Faces figured out that slipping a coin just before killing them is time wasting and hazardous so when he no one around he flip his coin and the result will apply to the next person he see

LOL! That's actually the excuse I told myself that way I don't hate the issue.

If true it's even more disappointing, because it suggests the extra-size climax of the story isn't even the end, but feel free to to take my extra buck, DC. Besides, Alan Moore could write and Gil Kane could rise from the grave to draw #151, but it won't make #150 any better.

Still, nice cover:

Just three more issues anyway, so I'm not getting worked up about it. I wonder if people will follow Dick to the bat books. I don't think I will. I'll read them and mabe get trades for the stories I like, but I'm not commiting to another series. Especially with the price of comics rising.

I wonder if they had to change things because of RIP. I think this book was going to come out after RIP was over. The ending feels like it might have been changed to make up for RIP being late.

They're obviously going for a "sleek look" over practical application. I get that. Obviously you'd never hold escrima sticks that way. But didn't he originally have tonfa?
