I want to read more about Jim Gordon's background before he came to Gotham. I've found an old thread about something like this but what I'm looking for it's more about if DC have ever published somethig when he was in the militia or in Chicago. It doesn't matter if it was printed in a miniseries, one-shot, graphic novel or a flashback issue in the Bat-books. But please, try to provide issue number or book titles so I can look for it.
Any help would be very much appreciated!

Gordon of Gotham is a miniseries. It takes place 10 years before Batman Year One and it is set in Chicago. So I don't know the exact plot, but I've heard that it explained why Commisioner Loeb thought that Gordon was crooked when they first met in Year One.

Gordon of Gotham was my first thought.
Batman Confidential # 13-16 features flashbacks to Gordon's early days as a cop in Gotham before he transferred to Chicago. DCU Holiday Bash II features a story called 'I Left My Heart at the Justice Society Canteen' shows a young Gordon as an ensign in the navy (although timeline issues render the canon status of this story doubtful). |

Gordon of Gotham was a pretty good read. I got that out of the .50 cent bin a few months back.
If you are looking for an interesting Jim Gordon story, take a look for Gotham Noir, which is an Elseworld's comic set in a hard boiled detective version of Gotham by Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips. |

The Batman Chronicles, a quarterly series, had an issue featuring young Jim Gordon in Chicago. I think it was either issue seven or eight. I cannot recall offhand. It's been a while.
