Batman does a fair bit of flying/gliding in the Dark Knight, I'd liked to have seen more swinging on bat-lines. I know he's not spider man but he does a fair bit of that sort of thing in the comics. And wouldn't that be more realistic than the flying/gliding? Even though both are far fetched. Swinging is less so. Be good to see those muscles flexing as Bats moves from one line to the next, hooking onto gables and stuff and whooshing in like Tarzan. Or do you disagree?
Flying or swinging or in the spirit of ultra realism: None of these. Just vehicles and footwork? Let's put it to the vote.

I think that, similar to Daredevil, Batman uses his grappling gear mostly for entering and exiting a scene, not for the kind of catch and release locomotion across town that Spider-man does.

I don't know, I've read plenty of Batman comics where he and Robin are patroling the city by swinging on bat-lines.

I'd love to see both. BTW Nolan "stole" the Gliding From Batman Returns. Wheres Bats transfroms his cape to an all out Glider.

That's right. I'd like to see both and that way you save the gliding for a how's he going to get out of this one moment and da da. Lots of swinging and then a glorious glide when needed.

I think he should mix it up.
Hang Gliding is kind of cool, but that pretty much onlt works starting from ahigher point. Getting to that higher point would require grappling hooks and various rope work. Gliding/flying works better with the "BAT" theme, but if he keeps the cape spread while grappling, it has the same look/effect. so combo for me. |

You should see both. However, the way the gliding is presented in the new movies is pretty cool and more realistic to me than swinging. I especially used to hate it in the comics when he'd swing away while standing on the street and he was only using a rope and batarang. No "gun" system.
The comics totally need to incorporate the glider cape. It just makes more sense. Not to mention it's quicker and he doesn't have to worry about retrieving the rope afterwards or running short of it. You rapel up and glide down. Simple. |

I think the gliding in the Nolan movies is a bit more realistic then the glider scen in Batman Returns.
I like the idea of Bats swinging like in the comics and B:TAS, but it just does not fit in Nolan's world. |

There were a couple good swing moments in TDK. The abduction of Lau being one of them. He also used the grapple to get around the skyscraper in the end. I think they give Batman's cape a purpose with the gliding.
Swinging looks good in the comics, but it's not practical in a realistic setting. Spidey can do it with no problem, but he doesn't have to deal with a grapple and spool system. He also has superhuman strength in those arms, swinging around like tarzan in that armor Bruce would have to call it a night pretty early. |
