Default Michael Turner Passes Away at 37

After a long battle with cancer, artist Michael Turner, known best for his work on “Fathom,” “Soulfire” and too many covers to count, has died. He was 37.

Yeah, I saw that on the front page.

Whilst I was never the biggest fan of his art, it is always a shame when someone is taken as early as Michael was.

My thoughts are with his family and friends.

NO I loved turner's art. I'm a sucker for what most call bad art. I loved his varient covers and usually demanded them verses the regular covers. This makes me sad.

Wow, that's somewhat shocking. I know he's been battling cancer for awhile, but I thought it had been in remission? That's a real shame. "Talent" aside, thirty-seven is way too young to go.

R.I.P. Mike.

I loved his covers.... I can't believe it. He just drew this awesome cover for Uncanny X-Men #500!

I can't say I'm surprised. There were too many recurrences, but I admired his ever-positive outlook in interviews. It was always just something he was dealing with, that sometimes got in the way of drawing. That said, it still sucks. 37 is way too young. It's hard enough when we lose an Alex Toth, but to loose Turner, and so soon after Wieringo, it just sucks. My thoughts and prayers to his family.

With the re-launch of Fathom, it seemed to me he was preparing his creations to survive him, and I truly hope they do. He was a great talent, and should be remembered and enjoyed for as long as possible.

Damn. Just... damn. As before - it is to be expected, but...

Sigh, I'm not good at words.

Echo that, here. Heck, I didn't even know he was sick, because I'm not a fan and don't follow news about him. But, yeah, disagreements about his style aside, that's way too young to be shuffling off this mortal coil.

... My heart stopped there, if only for a brief second. =(

I may have rode on his art before, but I will say this now and without regret:

When I was just 11-12 years old, the man was perhaps my biggest inspiration. Just a young scrap, starting out drawing for the first time and one of the things I used to do was copy his 'Tomb Raider' art... poorly. But damned if I didn't think it was the greatest comic art I'd ever seen (possibly the first, too) then.

He put up a brave fight.

He will certainly be missed by me, dearly.

So sad. My dad loved Turners work, and he's always been one of my favorite artists. We'll be missing him around here.

Wow. Sucks.

I've only ever purchased three comic book posters in my life. One of them is the very first Invincible poster. The other two are Michael Turner's Civil War and Ultimate X-Men #75. I just really like having his renditions of heros up on my walls. I'm moving today, so I'm going to be sure to find a good spot for those to go in my new place.

(Ironically, I'm already wearing my Mike Wieringo-drawn FF clothing today. Man, this sucks.)
