Default Has Gordon ever killed?

I found myself on the train today reading Greg Rucka's novel of No Man's Land. It's clearly stated quite early that Batman want's nothing to do with Huntress because she kills; end of story. In the current Batman & Robin comic series Gordon goes to tell Jason that he's going to jail because he kills, where as batman does not. Another occurrence takes place during the HUSH story line - Gordon stops batman from killing Joker... I have no doubt that theres many more occurrences like these.

Clearly Batman has his reasons to not kill, and Gordon has the law - but the law allows for a cop to kill if needed.

Simple question: Has Gordon ever killed? and if so, what did Batman ever think of it?

I don't think Batman would mind. He is legally entitled to should he have to. Huntress, on the other hand...

And yeah, I'm pretty sure he has had to, being a cop as long as he has.

I recall that Gordon killed The Wrath's parents (who were burglars, by the way) in his early years as a cop. Of course, that was Pre-Crisis Gordon.

He killed someone in the Contagion plotline. The guy caught the Clench, went insane and was going to murder him, Batman and probably Poison Ivy. Gordan shot him in the face, and Batman tried to provide some moral comfort.

So while I doubt he's 'okay' with it, Batman clearly respects Gordon's right to carry and use a firearm in the line of duty.

Some cops have gone their whole career without shooting someone.

I think you mean a Gotham cop, who's lucky to go a week without being in a situation where they have to shoot someone

Well yeah, it would be amazing to be a Gotham cop and not shoot someone.

It's referenced in the sequel to the story by Bedard and Morales in Batman Confidential.

Bruce has no problem with cops who kill, so long as it is within the confines of the law. He wouldn't object to Jim killing in self-defense. If it was in cold blood, he'd object. The one time he didn't, he chose not to say anything and instead trusted Jim to not do it.

Not sure if this counts, but in The Dark Knight Returns, it's reported on the news that Gordon killed a member of the Mutants gang in self-defense.
