A few weeks ago, I noticed as I was reading some of the comics spinning off from Countdown that they seemed to be covering a very small span of time. Going from Countdown to OMAC you could map the number of days exactly, and Crisis of Conscience seemed to pick up almost immediately thereafter and take us straight into Infinite Crisis #1. I got curious and wrote down the events day to day, and as I added in more and more stuff, it became like a giant crossword trying to get everything to fit. It really appealed to the puzzle-solver in me. There are still a few things that don't quite work, but for the most part, I ended up with a very workable timeline, and I thought the breakneck pace of it all only added to the drama.
Rather than being a chronology or reading order, this timeline breaks down everything between Countdown and Infinite Crisis, day by day.
This is still unfinished, obviously, and I will be updating it until IC is over, because it is a lot of fun for me, but I would love to hear what you guys think, and since, I'm sure, many of you are more detailed-oriented than I am, you might notice some errors or omissions that I had missed, or come up with a fix for the one or two things that seem irreconcilable to me right now.
*UPDATED 1/22/06 with the last month of comics, more details on the Rann-Thanagar War, and corrections and revisions.
INFINITE CRISIS TIMELINE OF EVENTS
Countdown Chapter 1
Batman 635-638
Green Arrow 50 p.26-29, 52 p.1-3
Villains United p.1-9
Day of Vengeance 2 p.1-6, 11-12
The Society, a consortium of Super-villains led by Lex Luthor, with Deathstroke, Calculator, Talia, Dr. Psycho, and Black Adam, continues recruiting members en masse. They are taken aback when they receive word that a third-rate former villain named Catman turns down their offer for membership.
Blue Beetle visits Oracle. She discovers that Kord Industries is almost bankrupt and that money has been siphoned through Waynetech and into a project called OMAC. She also discovers that Booster Gold is using Beetle's ATM card. After Beetle locates Booster, the two dine with Max Lord to see if they can find out what's going on with Kord's money, but he dismisses their concerns.
After fighting a mysterious cyborg called an OMAC near his new Fortress of Solitude in the Amazon the night before, Superman returns to Metropolis and encounters a new villain called Blackrock. He takes the villain's source of power (a Black Rock) and throws it into the sun.
Bruce Wayne learns that he has lost controlling interest in Kord Industries. A new vigilante, the Red Hood, announces his presence to Gotham's underworld. Gotham's new crime lord, the Black Mask, recruits Mr. Freeze. By evening, news of the Red Hood's exploits hits the papers.
As Speedy, Green Arrow, and Green Arrow's son Connor Hawke are about to walk in the front door of their home in Star City, it explodes.
Beetle goes to the Batcave, but gets waved away by Batman.
Shortly after Beetle leaves, the Red Hood disrupts a shipment to the Black Mask and releases Amazo. Nightwing, with his leg still healing, comes to check on Batman. Batman and Nightwing fight Amazo, Mr. Freeze, and the Red Hood, and recover 100 pounds of stolen kryptonite.
Eclipso, now in the host body of the insane Jean Loring, approaches the Spectre. The Spectre, untethered by a human host, is confused and without compassion - a being of pure vengeance. Eclipso is able to convince the Spectre to wage a war on magic to eliminate all evil from the world. He begins by attacking the bigs guns. He battles the Phantom Stranger and turns him into a mouse.
Countdown Chapter 2
Villains United 1 p.10-15
Action Comics 827-828
Adventures of Superman 638
JSA 74 p.1-2, Day of Vengeance 2 p.13-15
A small team of villains called the Six make their first strike against the Society. The Six (Deadshot, Chesire, a Parademon, Ragdoll, Scandal, and the Fiddler) defeat a number of Society agents near the Amazon and plant some sort of explosive device in the ground. The Fiddler performs poorly and Deadshot kills him.
Superman battles Dr. Polaris in Metropolis, but Black Adam and Zoom show up to take him to the Society. At night, Metropolis Police Headquarters is attacked by a villain called Ruin, who is targeting Superman's loved ones. Jimmy Olsen is injured and Ruin escapes. When Superman gets home, he and Lois get a visit from Mr. Mxyzptlk. Mxy warns them of a coming crisis and reminds Superman that he must have faith in the future.
Late at night, Blue Beetle discovers a break-in at a Kord warehouse in Chicago. The kryptonite from Supergirl's spaceship is stolen in the heist. A number of heroes (including Superman, Hal Jordan, Power Girl, Hawkgirl, Hawkman, Dr. Fate, Nightwing, Starfire, Cyborg, Wonder Girl, Speedy, Green Arrow, and Black Canary) come to investigate, but leave early when nothing turns up. Nightwing leaves before Superman arrives, and Beetle tells only Superman and Hal Jordan about the kryptonite, thus Nightwing does not tell Beetle the kryptonite has already been recovered. After Superman and Jordan leave, Beetle is attacked by a hired gang of Madmen. Booster Gold returns, in costume, to help his friend.
Meanwhile, the Spectre attacks Hector and Lyta Hall in Salem. As Hector transforms into Dr. Fate, the Spectre traps both Hector and Lyta inside Dr. Fate's mask. He then blinds Madame Xanadu and begins destroying the gathering places of magic users.
Countdown Chapter 2 p. 25-28, Chapter3
Teen Titans 21-23 , Outsiders 20-22
Day of Vengeance 2 p.14
Batman visits Zatanna, Jason Blood, Green Arrow, and Superman to investigate the nature of resurrection. He encounters the Red Hood again and the Red Hood reveals himself to be Jason Todd.
In the evening, Dr. Light captures Green Arrow in Star City.
While Beetle and Booster are at Beetle's home, an energy blast from the sky strikes the house and injures Booster. Beetle finds the original Golden Age Blue Beetle's Scarab in the wreckage and takes it to Fawcett City.
About the same time Booster's house is hit, Dr. Light makes a statement to the press about his capture of Green Arrow, using him as bait to lure the Titans so he can kill the children of the Justice League. It is Speedy's first official mission with the Titans. She is given a quiver of arrows that used to belong to Arsenal and includes a mysterious emergency arrow. All Titans, past and present, show up, including the Flash who tells the Titans the rest of the JLA is busy dealing with the aftermath of their recent encounter with the Crime Syndicate. Together, they defeat Light and rescue Green Arrow.
Someone dressed as Batman takes Dr. Light into custody, but it is Deathstroke, and he takes Light to the Society.
Shrapnel breaks into Outsiders' headquarters, and Nightwing and Starfire head back to Brooklyn to investigate.
Later, Speedy reveals to her teammates that she is HIV-positive.
After Deathstroke returns to the Society's HQ somewhere outside Gotham City, the Society discusses the kryptonite missing from Kord's warehouse and makes plans to recruit Captain Cold and the Flash's Rogues. Dr. Light demands retribution for his mystic lobotomy at the hands of the JLA, and Luthor tells him they are building it.
Blue Beetle uses the Scarab to locate the Wizard Shazam. The Wizard suggests the energy bolt was not magical in origin. He sends Beetle away, but not before taking the Scarab.
Late in the night, as a result of Shrapnel's break-in at Outsiders HQ, Indigo discovers that Wayne Industries has been funding the Outsiders, while Arsenal reveals that "Batman" has been giving him intel. Nightwing immediately leaves to confront Bruce Wayne.
Nightwing confronts Batman at the Batcave about funding the Outsiders, while Arsenal meets "Batman," who turns out to be Deathstroke. They fight, but Deathstroke leaves him alive. As morning breaks, Arsenal and Nightwing return to Outsiders HQ in Brooklyn and Arsenal puts it on lockdown.
About this time, Spectre attacks outlying areas of Atlantis, the San Francisco Bewitched Club, and the Fountain of Youth.
Also about this time, in the Polaris System, the Planet Rann materializes, the result of a spiteful rogue Thanagarian who hoped Thanagar would attack and destroy Rann. However, Thanagar is thrown off its orbit toward the sun, dooming the planet. Adam Strange and the Rannians begin a desperate plan to evacuate Thanagar.
