Default Bomb Queen Q&A Thread...with Jimmie Robinson!

Hello, I’m Jimmie Robinson, artist, writer & creator of Image Comic’s, “Bomb Queen” (Feb. 2006).

    I’d like your help.

This is a great time to be in comics - as a reader, or a creator. But with such great diversity our dollars are stretched thin. Many solid books are getting the short shaft simply due to economics in the marketplace. Both readers and retailers only have so much money, trust me, I understand. Because of this situation, I’m writing this open letter to you, and the industry.

Bomb Queen, from Shadowline Image Comics is one such title that needs your support. Of course I’m biased here, but I am certain Bomb Queen is worth a look, and worth the space at your local retailer.

Many of you may not be aware of Bomb Queen at all, so here’s a quick primer:

    Mussolini meets Astro City.

Much like Mark Millar’s “Wanted”, or Mark Waid’s “Empire”, Bomb Queen is a story from the POV of the villain. But more than that, it features the society that allows her to rule New Port City in the first place.

    From Diamond Previews:

“For a decade, the super-villain known as Bomb Queen has ruled the city, made the laws and bent the people to her blood lust and sexual perversion. However, despite years of death, destruction and moral decay, the people of New Port City actually prefer Bomb Queen’s methods. But when a hero comes to town all hell breaks loose and now Bomb Queen must kill this hero – or, lose her rule forever!”

So, I’m asking that readers ask your retailers, preorder if you can, and check it out on the stands.

This week, as of this post, is crucial for initial orders. This is a limited series of 4 issues, so the initial numbers need to be high enough to allow the entire series to survive. I know money is tight, so I’m not asking for an on-going commitment. Times have changed and so has the industry. Readers now have more power than ever before, hence why I’m coming to you to help spread the word.

If you’re a retailer, with a Diamond account, you can log on and read the ENTIRE first issue on the Diamond site.

If you’re a reader, I implore you to talk to your retailer and ask about the order code below:

Order CODE: DEC051754 Bomb Queen #1 (Of 4) (MR)

Thanks for your time and consideration on this matter. I know nobody really wants to see creators taking up posts like this, but as noted above, the times have changed. I love what I do (as creator, writer, artist) and I’d love to continue sharing my work – even if it doesn’t work for everyone. Diversity in comics must continue, especially for those who love what we do and slave night and day to reach our intended audience.

    Thanks again, and happy reading!

Hey Jim, the Image Comics preview link in your initial post links to a page of HTML. If you're so inclined, you can click the edit button on that post to fix it.

With regards to the book, I'm intrigued. And, not that I'm complaining, but how do her britches stay on? ;)

    Yeah, those crazy britches!

To be honest they started out as low-riding hip-huggers, but as time went on, and as the book and Bomb Queen found her voice and became so outrageous, the britches got lower.

So low to the point that they're just stockings now. A bit like stockings with a "cup" added. However, there are times I will alter the leggings / stockings / britches - because well... sometimes in promotion things need to be "work safe", or "retailer safe". I don't want to get others in trouble or have to call in the CBLDF over Bomb Queen's aggressive "style".

Also take note: In the book, I do consider the limitations of her costume. In short, while in battle, there are a few "wardrobe malfunctions" - if I can borrow a line from Janet Jackson's routine.

I'll work on that Link - and get more preview pages up. More behind-the-scenes info, too.

Also let me point you to a little behind-the-scenes fun with a 100% free online comic featuring Bomb Queen - and other Image / Shadowline characters. I started this just by doing little warm up sketches and eventually it became a story.

So I started posting some of it each day on the Shadowline forum. You can read it all
    HERE - Bomb Queen Online.

Here's a sample image so you'll have an idea of what to expect. As I said, these are just sketches. it's a lot, so give it some time to load.

    Enjoy.

Dude, you just sold me a comic. ;)

All kidding aside, though, I'm guessing the costume is just the hook to catch peoples' eyes and there's actually an entertaining story with developed characters. It's more than Bomb Queen prancing around in a skimpy outfit blowing things up, right? Not that there's anything wrong with that.

    BOMB QUEEN NEWS

Bomb Queen in a Special One-Shot crossover with Shadowline's heroine, Black Light! A "Cat Fight" you don't want to miss!

I'm having a lot of fun with this one. This is played more for laughs than anything else, because I'm not looking to drag good girl Black Light through the mud of New Port City. Script by Scott Wherle, art by your friendly neighborhood Bomb Queen artist.

    Coming soon.... this August!

Also, for those having trouble with finding Issue #2, or any issue for that matter. Have no fear... the Bomb Queen TRADE PAPERBACK is here! Crack open this Month's Diamond Previews and check out the solicitation for BOMB QUEEN WMD: Woman of Mass Destruction

Collects all 4 issues plus 40 EXTRA PAGES! Can't beat that!

    Order code: MAY061724

OH... and what's this? ANOTHER MINI-SERIES? Well, hot diggity! Look for more Bomb Queen action near the end of the year as I take us on another crazy thrill ride mini-series.

THANKS to all the support and all the READERS this series has found a life in the comic industry. I know it's not for everyone, but I'd rather have a diverse selection on the shelf for those readers who are looking for something a little "out there".

    Thanks again!
