    Default Christmas/Hanukkah/Yule/Seasonal Decorations!

    Woo Hoo!

The Christmas tree is going up in the Winslow household today. We have a tradition of pulling out the Christmas Decorations out of storage and setting them up the weekend after Thanksgiving.

We have a fake tree (I don't like the idea of cutting down a tree for a seasonal decoration - maybe Tolkien's Treebeard character has influenced me ;) - also I don't want to haul my butt out in the cold to bring home a messy tree . . .

We have an eclectic set of Christmas ornaments from handmade - to the traditional balls, to the Hallmark stuff . . . .

My wife likes white lights instead of colored - so our tree is all white lights

And we have a gold garland - but no foil tinsel.

We also clear the fireplace mantle and set up a creche, as well as stockings for the fireplace.

So what are your seasonal decorating traditions?

Fee free to post some pics - I may when if I get a chance!

My wife decorates our Christmas tree with hand made glass flying eyeballs. A friend of ours made them and they have gold leaf on their wings.

    I suppose . . .

When I was a bachelor I didn't bother either. But my wife and I got a tree our first Christmas.

The wings are sweet. How did your friend make those?

Also, couldn't help but be curious about the art on the walls. What is it?

Without a really lengthy explanation the flying eyeballs are made using traditional glassblowing techniques. The art pieces on the wall are a small sketch by Mike Mignola and the original cover art for a BPRD comic by Guy Davis.

I guess we're just big kids.

I love seeing holiday decorations but I don't like doing them myself. My parents usually do that sort of stuff. Though, this year we've all been sort of lazy: the tree isn't up yet.

We have 3 trees, all artificial. They need to be artificial in order to hold all the ornaments.

My wife is extremely creative and goes a bit bonkers with the Christmas decorations (funny for a couple of atheists huh?)

This year we got off easy on our tree ornaments bill. Highest was 4 years ago $600. This year was only about $425.

Next year we'll need a fourth tree.

I don't bother decorating because I'm young and single and go home to the parents for the holidays anyway. I've been wanting to put some greenery in the apartment though. I really like Sir Edward's tree though...maybe I'll look for a mini tree to put in the corner.

I did my part though and helped setup the artificial tree at work. It has PBR and Lone Star cans on it. Such a swanky tree.

My wife and I have had two trees over the last 15 years or so. We buy a nice pine or juniper in a container and keep it on the balcony all year. When it finally gets too big we just plant it out somewhere.

    That's a cool tradition.

Years from now you can walk by some 50 foot juniper and say, "remember when we had that on our balcony and in the corner of our living room?"

My wife, a friend of mine and I own a glassblowing studio and gallery here in Victoria, BC (Starfish Glassworks) and we host a big gala Christmas party every year. We always do a big seasonal demonstration and this year we decided to make a glass gingerbread house. Here are some pics.

My Wife and I always put up a tree even though we go up North for Christmas.

This year, my Mom is coming down here to Florida.

I have been accumulating Steeler ornaments for quite some time and I am almost to the point where I can make an entire Steeler tree. That will be a great day.
