    Question The Seventies

So I've slowly been compiling this compilation of 70s AM radio tunes. Here's what I've got so far:

Bad Bad Leroy Brown - Jim Croce
Workin' at the Car Wash Blues - Jim Croce
I'll Have To Say I Love You In A Song - Jim Croce
You Don't Mess Around With Jim - Jim Croce
Time in a Bottle - Jim Croce
    I Got a Name - Jim Croce
Operator (That's Not the Way It Feels) - Jim Croce
The First Cut Is the Deepest - Keith Hampshire
Indiana Wants Me - R. Dean Taylor
    Arms of Mary - Chilliwack
    Levon - Elton John
I Love You to Want Me - Lobo
    No Matter What - Badfinger
Down in Mexico - Edward Bear
Sunshine (Go Away Today) - Jonathan Edwards
Ride Captain Ride - Blues Image
    She's Gone - Hall & Oates
    Shannon - Henry Gross
    Candida - Tony Orlando
    Brandy - Looking Glass
Me & You & A Dog Named Boo - Lobo
What Is Life - George Harrison
    Shambala - Three Dog Night
    Carry Me - Stampeders
    Thunder Island - Jay Ferguson
Life Is A Rock - Reunion
    Still The One - Orleans
One Toke Over The Line - Brewer & Shipley
Two Tickets to Paradise - Eddie Money
Baby Hold On - Eddie Money
    Fly at Night - Chilliwack
    One Tin Soldier - Coven
Which Way You Going Billy - Poppy Family
    California Girl - Chilliwack
In the year 2525 - Zager & Evans

You started the list with Three Dog Night, so I'll recommend some more: "Joy To The World".

Oh, hell. Just put in the entire Three Dog Night catalogue. You haven't got "One" in there yet, do you?

Got to put some Jackson 5 in there. No matter what's happened to Michael since, AM radio in the early 70s belonged to the Jacksons.

And while we're on the subject of Motown, how about some early 1970s Stevie Wonder hits like "If You Really Love Me" and "I Was Made To Love Her"?

A few of the entries on the list, such as "Ode to Billy Joe" and "Hooked On A Feeling" are, I believe, technically 1960s songs.

Some early 70s Hollies might fit the bill - "Long Cool Woman" and "The Air That I Breathe".

Some of Chicago's early 1970s hits, perhaps? Or was that more FM stuff back then?

"I'd Like To Teach The World To Sing (In Perfect Harmony)" - the greatest commercial jingle EVER (interestingly, last year, I heard this on oldies radio one night at the EXACT moment I popped open a bottle of Coke).

    There are tons more.

I listened to more AM radio than I care to remember, so it's hard for me to sort out which of these I heard on those stations...

The Year of the Cat - Al Stewart
Love Reign O'er Me - The Who
    Peace Train - Cat Stevens
Love is the Drug - Roxy Music
All the Young Dudes - Mott the Hoople
Walking on the Moon - the Police
You're My Best Friend - Queen

    Pilot - January

You need some pop/soul there - the Stylistics, the Spinners, the Chi-Lites, Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes, the O'Jays, the whole Philadelphia Gamble & Huff sound.

And some singles by the former members of the Beatles; they all had AM hits in the 70s.

I'm not sure if it was an AM hit or not but what about Dr. Hook's "The Cover Of The Rolling Stone."

Damn, I didn't even notice that. I think I was goin' more for feel than era.

I'll just rename the playlist "AM Radio", then.

Someone beat me to Joy to The World, my first though.

Second thought, considering it doesn't have to be absolutely 70s, is Nilsson's Everybody's Talking.

Oh and can you have AM radio without Macarthur Park?

I couldn't tell you if they were on A.M. radio, but some 70's stuff that might fit are:

    Orleans - "Dance With Me"
Neil Young - "Heart of Gold"
Seals and Crofts - "Summer Breeze"
    The Hollies - "Dear Eloise"
Hall and Oates - "Sarah Smile"
Harry Chapin - "Cats in the Cradle"
    The Commodres - "Easy"
