    Default Desperate Housewives

Tonight's episode was the eventful start of the second season, filled with many humorous moments as well as some outright frank discussion bringing various characters up to speed on various subjects.

Susan is still held at gunpoint when Mike comes in. Mike pleads with Zach, when Susan attacks Zach, who drops the gun. Susan picks up the gun, but is attacked by Mike's dog, accidentally firing the gun, the bullet firing out the window into an alcoholic lady neighbor's bottle (which she believes is a sign of God!). Susan injures herself by biting her lip and is treated at the hospital, where Mike secretly tells the police that they don't want to press charges against Zach. Julie overhears this and tells Susan, who confronts Mike. Mike tells her how he left Paul in the desert and the truth about Paul and Mary Alice, the taking of Diedre's son, and the murder of Diedre. Mike recievs a call from the police saying that Zach turned up dead. Mike and Susan go to ID the body, but it's not Zach. Mike doesn't react as Susan expected, and she realizes that Zach is Mike's son. Susan later apologizes for her reaction, but tells Mike that she can't be around Zach and therfore they can't move in together.

Edie's house is nearly done, and we learn that Felicia is still hospitalized.

Lynette interviews for a demanding job while Tom adjusts (poorly) to being a stay-at-home dad. Tom actually injures himself playing with his kids and Lynette has to take Penny the baby to her second interview. She convinces the admin to babysit for a few minutes, but the baby starts crying so Lynette brings the baby in while she interviews, impressing her potential new boss. She's hired, much to the dismay of her new manager.

Meanwhile Gabrielle is surprised to find John in her bed, but she's angry and kicks him out of the house. She then visits Carlos in prison, who gives her the silent treatment and demands a paternity test. Gabrielle goes to a clinic and actually takes another woman's results with the intention of Photoshopping them to show the results that Carlos wants. Gabrielle brings the doctored results to Carlos, who's still not happy. They argue and realize that neither of them are very good people.

Bree is dealing with Rex's death, but holding herself together as she "combats" Rex's grieving mother, Phyllis, who has inserted herself into the Van De Kamps' home and into Bree's planning of Rex's funeral. Bree threatens to keep Rex's mother away from the funeral, but her kids, who are both home, convince her otherwise. Also, Bree and Danielle introduce themselves to the Applewhites, and ask Betty to play the music in lieu of the church pianist who is out sick. At the funeral, Betty plays while the neighobrs are in attendance. It's an open casket, and the vamily walk by the coffin individually. Bree is visually bereft. Especially when she sees that Rex's mom put his prep school tie on the body. During the service Bree confronts Phyllis about the tie. Bree screams as the coffin is about to be closed. She surveys the audience and demands that Tom give her his tie. She takes Tom's tie and replaces the horrid orange one that Phyllis had put on the body. The VanDe Kamp kids are pretty embarrassed. Most of the neighbors are pretty stunned. After retying the acceptable tie perfectly, Bree says Rex looks magnificent. Betty continues playing, and Bree leaves the church.

Susan tells the other housewives the truth about Mary Alice having killed Diedre. The ladies discuss secrets and not caring abouit what goes on behind closed doors.

In the Applewhite's house, Betty isi playing the piano. Matthew brings her her a tray with dinner on it, with a flower. Betty pulls a gun from a drawer and gives it to Matthew. The two take the tray into the basement, into a locked room, and set it upon a table. Betty comments on the lovielness of the gesture of the flower and the two leave, as a restrained hand takes picks up the glass of water from the tray.

A great episode. A whole new mystery.

Default Comments on the Premiere *SPOILERS*

I saw it and liked the premiere--Desperate Housewives started off with a bang! All puns intended :P

Lawn-boy looked awfully sexy in Gabby's bed, but I get her reasons for throwing him out. Her deviousness in the ob-gyn's waiting area with that woman were a pure delight, especially the interaction w/the receptionist!
"I may choose to express myself, but that doesn't mean that I condone adultery!" I also found the comments about the eggs and lesbian mothers, as well as Gabby's comeback, rather funny!

Great moments w/Bree, especially her tunnel-vision focus on the garish prep school tie during Rex's funeral!

The red herring at the morgue seemed too predictable, I knew that wasn't Zach. Still, the entire scene set up a nice break-up from Susan.

Betty seems like an interesting new castmate, and I like the mystery of her basement prisoner.

Good start to a second season for the much-missed show!

Good points...a lot of questions were raised and unanswered tonight.

How DID that guy in the morgue come to be ID'd as Zach?
Is the prisoner in the Applewhite's basement Betty's husband?
    Will Paul survive?
As Andrew only home for the funeral?
Has Mike informed Diedre's father of the truth?
How long UNTIL the truth behind the tainting of Rex's heart medicine comes to light?

Shady Pharmacist seems like the most obvious candidate, but that's too predictable. How long before Bree is arrested for "murder"?

Exactly, especially since her daughter witnessed her having waited to seek out medical attention.

I still don't buy Rex being dead. I'm still expecting him to pop up further in the season, having tracked George down as the source of his ill health, after suspecting Bree was trying to kill him. That said, I'm beginning to suspect that Bree may have had more to do with her mother's death than she's let on.

Mattie, will you marry me? I love guys that dig chick shows. LOL. The season premiere was ok but Zach turning out to be Mike Delfino's son was no big surprise. I love Bree. She's my favorite character. I loved how she sat there and stewed the entire funeral until she just had to finally get up and find another tie to put on Rex. CLASSIC Bree. Love that.

The only part I had a problem with was the fact that Mike downplayed what Zach did to Susan to the police and even made it sound like it was her fault. I was like huh? Just because Zach is your son DOES NOT mean you should be ok with him holding people hostage at gun point! I was really surprised they turned Mike's character that way because Zach has turned into quite the teenage psychopath.

But all in all, a good show.

Well, he was in the coffin and buried so he's dead- I don't think they play by Daytime Soap Rules and if they did, it would really make one wonder if anything of impact can happen to these characters.

C'mon, the latest Mike/ Susan break-up was because Mike is really Zach's father that he didn't really find about until the end of the first season and was taken in by The Youngs and Susan has a problem with Zach while Zach has the hots for Susan's daughter Julie.

At least leave the possibility open that Rex can come back.
The monster saved them all. And in their fear, they betrayed him. As they always have. As they always will.

The funeral tie scene was the best.

Good premiere, but I thought it was only second to Veronica Mars.

I actually enjoyed it more than the Lost premiere.

Well, anyone see last nights episode??? I missed part of it because I went to see Serenity. I know that Susan's ex is sleeping with Edie. And Rex's mom is starting to become suspicious of Bree. What happened with the new neighbor and the mystery person in the basement? Anything?

    SPOILERS BELOW!

Apparently, in some parts of LA, one of the cable companies broadcast the show in Spanish only, which really annoyed a lot of English-only speaking people. The cable company and ABC are currently blaming each other.

We don't know what the deal is with the man in Alfre Woodard's basement, but Susan's heard him clanging about, and the explanation she received certainly didn't hold up. I don't know what this guy did to Woodard's character, but she certainly proves that "Hell hath no fury, like a woman scorned!"

In typical Susan fashion, while backing up her car to continue the conversation with Edie, who was skating away, she accidentally ran her down.

Rex' mother and his doctor are suspicious of Bree, and the Doc clued in the insurance company. I still don't buy that he's dead. We didn't see him die, and it is pulp fiction. Even when you see a body, don't count them dead. I think he's faked his death, possibly with the assistance of his Dr., who's an old friend, to see if it was Bree, or someone else, like George the Pharmacist. If we'd seen him kick, like when Mary-Alice shot herself, it'd be one thing, but remember that Rex has access to all sorts of meds, and could easily fake his death if he wanted to, even to the point of being limp in his casket.

Bree's son has done almost nothing except convince his mom to let Rex' mom attend the funeral. I'm eager to see more of his storyline, preferably with his boyfriend - but that may just be me!

The stuff with Gabrielle was funny, buying her husband's safety in prison via another con's girlfriend's boob-job, which allowed her to regain controll of their money, and Carlos' life.

OH! Susan's ex and Edie appear to actually, to her chagrin, be in love, which she wouldn't mind, if she and Mike weren't at looses ends due to the whole Dana/Zachary's packing heat, thing.

Don't forget, at the end Woodard's character is at a psychiatrist's/therapist's office, and spinning another lie like her son did in the premiere about his dad dying: she tells the doctor that her husband was abusive, and was beating her little son, and she couldn't get there in time to save him so he died, and it's haunted her for years and she can't sleep. So the doc prescribes her sleeping pills and says he hopes her husband got punished, she says yep, with a creepy look on her face, and Mary Alice narrates the final montage of Woodard & her son putting chopped-up pills in the basement-dweller's soup, getting the gun, and heading downstairs, while the insurance agent spies on Bree saying goodnight to George.

And in next week's preview... basement dweller gets loose!!!!!

Why would Rex fake his own death? (thanks for the update by the way Ontir) That makes no sense. What's his motive?
