    Default Y the last man

okay so I've read all five trades numerous times but just read them all today. so i realize this may sound stupid but who is Dr. M. that Toyota talks to on the phone and how did s/he know about Yorick and the monkey?

It could be Dr. Matsumori, Dr. Mann's mom, who, like her father was a scientist. But Dr Mann seems to have a thing against her father, not mom. How would mom have info on Yorick and the monkey. Maybe Congresswoman Brown sent in a call to Japan to get more than one geneticist a chance. By now, how many living people know of Yorick being alive. And could it be possible that there are other male monkeys alive in the jungles.?

Good questions, all of them. Of course, this being Y the Last Man, we're just going to have to wait a while for the answers. I personally think Dr M is Dr Mann's mom but hey, you never know where BKV is going to take this.

    Here's my big prediction.

Dr. M is Dr. Mann's father. Somehow, he had something to do with creating the plague, and as a result, also the antidote to the plague, and therefore survived. Perhaps ampersand was one of his test subjects, and somehow ended up in the care of Yorick, so ampersand contains and can pass on the protection from the plague. Dr. Mann's father is alive somewhere and trying to reclaim Ampersand because he contains vital genetic information.

    *shrugs*

    Maybe?

My theory: We're meant to believe that Dr. M. is Dr. Mann's father, only to find out that it's actually her mother, playing Mind Games. She knows about Ampersand somehow, and hopes to use his genetic information in order to resuscitate an immobilized male Dr. M.

I would have to guess it's Dr. Mann's father. I mean there are lots of possible, explanations why he's alive. I mean if he happened to be in a very secured, sealed lab when the catastrophe happened. He should be alive. Just like the astronauts were, and how the astonauts child survived. By being in a completely contrained location. Perhaps Dr. Mann (sr) has been kept alive in such a facility. Desperately looking to escape his "bubble boy" life.

I was just rereading the second and third books and Allison mentions that her dad was very close to cloning himself, which is why she then tried to clone herself. Maybe his clone has something to do with... something.

I can't do better than these theories. But I did want to comment on the latest issue, where they are in Australia. Various women are talking about men with that reporter on page 1. On page 2, we see the submarine at the dock, and *wow* does it look incredibly phallic. Too funny.

I can't remember, but did they ever discuss whether a hermaphrodite would be infected?

Supposedly, it's every mammal with a Y chromosome. True hermaphrodites are people with one testicle and one ovary, but I think they can have either XX (female) or XY (male) chromosomes.

I just read the first trade today. Amazing stuff, Vertigo is fast becoming my favourite imprint.

Does anyone know what's happened to submarine crews?

An all-female submarine crew was shown in the recent "Girl on Girl" story arc, so we can assume that all men in submarines were affected as well.

Wouldn't a sub like that be nuclear powered? If so, then why would it need to refuel?

I wanted to get into this series for a while now and grabbed the chance when my lcs had a sale.....40% off with all DC back issues last thursday...........so I raided the Y-the last man box and have all issues now except for 1, 2, 3, 4, 13, 14, 27, 29, 34, 35, 36.......I'm happy, too bad the first 4 issues weren't there. I really want the original issues.....yeah, I'm that kinda guy, but maybe I'll go for the first trade, not sure yet.

I'm enjoying Y The Last Man quite a bit as well.

Does anyone know how many issues this is slated to last? Has Vaughan mentioned a length at all?

Not that I want it to end.
