    My League:

Saint-Germain- Chelsea Quinn Yarbro's 4000 year old vampire count
    Tom Ripley- Patricia Highsmith's sociopath
Dana Franklin- From Octavia Butler's Kindred
Kathy Mallory- From Carol O'Connell's Mallory series
Daniel Torrance- From Stephen King's The Shining.

They'd be set in opposition to Hannibal Lector and his latest protege, Clarice Starling, at the behest of incredibly ancient George Smiley.

My mistake. Mathew Mantrell is from A Wizard in Rhymn series, not the Rhymning Wizard.

    Thread Resurection go!

While parusing my childhood memories I release who would be a PERFECT litterary figure to build a modern day league around.

Maniac Magee The Kid of Legends

Imagine that guy grown up, doing feats 10 times that of what he pulled in childhood.

How about this for a team? The following kid heroes, now adults.

    Maniac Magee.
Alvin Fernald and his Magnficent Brain(the team's tech-head)
    Ramona Quimbly(now an accomplished athlete)
Encyclopedia Brown(the detective of the group)
    James Henry Trotter(and his bug-friends)
Charlie Bucket(team's money man, heir to the Wonka fortune)
Milo Bloom(having regained access to the Phantom Tollbooth)

The first story: The League must accompany Milo back through the Lands Beyond to rescue the princesses Rhyme and Reason, who have been kidnapped by the Demons of Ignorance.

I have followed this thread for quite some time. Many excellent choices in every post. I hope no one minds me suggesting a story that I would like to see.

Presenting The League of Masked Ordinary Gentleman.

The Batman - Bruce Wayne - Young Student studying overseas
The Phantom - Kitt Walker XVIII
Zorro - Don Diego de la Vega - Wealthy Land Owner
The Green Hornet - Britt Reid - Newspaper Man
The Lone Ranger - John Reid - Texas Ranger

Sherlock Holmes would bring this group together.

I haven't exactly worked out a story yet, but I think it would be one great story though.

I like the idea of kids grown up, or of sidekicks having replaced their mentors (a bit like Doc Savage's grandson in the DC comic-book).

Love this thread. Here's my team.
    set in the 1940's.

King Arthur- Britains in trouble and he's back. He'll still have Excaliber the enchanted blade but will be dressed more like the current era.

Merlin- Arthur's freed him from his prison and who doesn't want the greatest wizard ever on their team.

Indiana Jones- He's been asked to work with the group, he's reluctant but then again he does hate nazis.

James Bond- A young secret agent, the mascot of the team, seems to have lots of potential.

Dr. Who- Because once they've sorted out the nazis he's got a few more jobs for them.

Richard Sharpe and Patrick Harper- The Doc's brought them to this time because he knows their potential.

Sarah Holmes- the daughter of Sherlock and the master spy of the british.

Mina Harker- She's immortal and the head of the League, she's responsible for its existence.

Lucille Crockett- daughter of Davey Crockett, a master tracker, terrain expert and the sharp shooter of the group.

The 40s are such a great period for that type of story! Good team, mcgaffer.

In the same spirit, here's another 1930-40s group of extraordinary or soon-to-be extraordinary gentlemen:

Lamont Cranston, still not known to the world at large as the Shadow, who despite his increasing age has taken a group of young people under his wing to train them in the ways of covert justice.

Bruce Wayne, the taciturn teenage heir to a great fortune, who despite a woeful lack of training shows great promise in such fields as chemistry and athletics. Given the right mentor, he could become a great force for good.

Llana of Gathol, a young woman of apparently extra-terrestrial origin. She speaks English with a southern Virginia accent, and is quite proficient with any type of bladed weapon.

Clark Kent, a young farmer from Kansas, who is apparently getting stronger and stronger every year. From his (admitedly sparse) medical file, it looks as if young Kent has also been getting harder and harder to hurt, having already survived a few accidents on the farm and having escaped unscathed from a polio epidemic in his home town. Despite the discomfort that his developing acute hearing is causing him, he is considered a potentially important asset as a field man.

The Tin Man, an otherworldy creature that was introduced to young Kent by a Kansas neighbour, Mrs. Dorothy Luthor (née Gale). The Tin Man is bulletproof and very resilient, although prone to rust.

Madame Sumuru, a young woman with amazing hypnotic powers and the mind of a genius. Sumuru intends to remake the world and to rid it of all that is chaotic and ugly. Cranston hopes to convince her to achieve these goals through benevolent means, but fears he may not control her dark passions.

I'm afraid that this league did not know a great success, mostly because of conflicting interests. It seems that after an undisclosed series of unfortunate events that involved a four-armed Nazi assassin, a massive explosion over the south pole, the Wimbledon tennis tournament, a walking pile of chocolate and the love life of certain members of the British Royal family, the league members went their separate ways.

It is said that Sumuru went on to lead a secret society pulling the strings of world events, that Wayne went to the east to pursue his training, that Kent became a journalist and that the Tin Man became the personal advisor to a young man named Anthony Stark. Llana went back to gathol, and as for Cranston... only the Shadow knows.

    Moby Dick
    The Cat in the Hat

I would, but I would have used Monstro the whale instead of Moby-Dick, and used it as a moveable base of operations.

Lucille Crockett would have to at least be his granddaughter, or great-granddaughter.

So, with Sarah Holmes, she's Nero Wolf's little sister.

An all-female league, set in 2020 or so

Modesty Blaise - is the architect, puts the group together, but can still shoot someone if necessary

Dark Angel - Max is the kid of the group, has to do what Blaise wants, so she can get money to help a friend
Vampirella - doesn't really want to be involved, but when the right thing needs to be done, she will do it
Sheena 3 - granddaughter of the original, now roams the urban jungle
Black Widow - that experimentation she was involved in keeps her young enough for this team
Black Canary 3 - Tara Lance, daughter of the current Canary

Are you guys all aware that Comics Oughta Be Fun has done something similar to this twice: here and
    here?

I'd like to be able to come up with another League to post in this thread, but I'm worried that between you here and them there, nobody's left to use.

    I will consider.
