Default Who is better: Spider-Man or Batman?

There was an article about who was better Batman or Spiderman. I have as always preferred DC and have been a bat fan since childhood but this morning one thing occurred to me while waiting for an elderly lady to use an atm
It occurred to me while waiting for her that you can make a good argument that spidey is better. The reason is that he lives amongst the people he saves and interacts with them when hes not Spiderman, and he still tries to save them even with the frustration of being cutoff while driving, slow people at atms, crowded esculators, well you get the picture.
Batman is completely different in that he is so distant from the people he is trying to protect, the question is would he do the same if he lived among the regular populace?

Well, on one had you've got your loveable everyday Joe that happens to get super powers and loves it. he's constantly cracking jokes and able to actually have a life and friends.

On the other hand you have a paranodi borderline pyscho that outright refuses to have a life and keeps extensive files on how to kill everybody that might consider him their freind.

I think it's rather obvious who the better man is.

Yeah, I think the very fact that they had to make "Ultimate Batman" for Batman Begins proves that they really had to crib a lot from Marvel's/Spidey's playbook just to make audiences give a damn about Batman for two hours. If they'd gone with the "asshole Batman" from the comics there would be no way the movie could have done as well as it did.

And I'm just saying, is all. I really liked Batman Begins. More than Spider-Man 2, in fact.

Spider-man is IMO better than Batman any day of the year in any universe that exists, past, present and future in all discovered and undiscovered dimensions.

You should put a poll like this on the Batman board to see their responses.

In a Spider-Man board Spider-Man is almost always going to win.

I prefer Spider-Man. I like his powers more, I like his character more... I like everything more. Spider-Man is my all time favorite superhero.

Batman's a deeply troubled, paranoid soul and that's always cool in a charactor.

But Spidey has so many sides to his charactor that it outright shames Bats's own in my opinion. Think about it, he's deeply troubled on the inside what with the deaths of so many and is therefore driven to carry on his responsibilty as Spider-Man (which is actually a bit like Batman's case) while on the other hand behind the fact that he feels compelled to wear the red and blue leotards and risk life and limb to save the ones he love, he also finds Spidey as a release and an opportunity to say what he'd be outright prosecuted for saying as Peter Parker.

In a way, he probably feels that being Spidey is having a position of power that he's never felt before as the meek, gawky teenager he was of old. Plus, what with his easy-going demeanour (the wisecracks), you'd have to think he finds being able to scale an entire building side whenever he felt like it or plunging his fists through concrete and demolishing buildings with his bare hands to be pretty cool. He also struggles with everyday life, thus depicting how even a man with superpowers has his off-days, and that just because you're widely recognized as a great superhero sometimes you just can't evade that parking ticket or eviction notice. There are times that he has to put up with crap from guys like J Jonah Jameson knowing that he could kill the guy with one untamed blow if he wanted and doesn't because of his own morality.

All in all, Spidey is as unique a superhero as you could ever find, as he's a guy who can deal the demand of crimefighting but still struggles with something as simple as getting to work on time.

Depends. Who's writing each one? What's the story about?

Seriously, Batman at his worst is... well, it's crap. But Spider-Man at his worst... we all remember the clone saga, right?

At their best... it's really a matter of opinion (and yes, I realize that's what this thread is all about). For me it's too close to call though.

Man this is like picking your best child or something.

I love them both equally but if you think about it Spider-Man is somewhat more tragic in that he lost both his parents, his uncle, Captain Stacy, Gwen Stacy and that chick Jean DeWolffe.

    Please!
Anybody who knows the very basic things about either character´s abilities knows that Spider-man beats the living crap out of Batman like a red-haired stepchild.
