    Default Dinosaur Dentist Covers

Swamp Thing #12 got me thinking of covers featuring a character dealing with the gaping jaws of a dinosaur or comparable monster.

ROK dug up another one with Jungle Action #14.

A couple of Wonder Woman cover came to mind, and got me thinking how many there might be. Perhaps we stumbled onto another subcategory of cover collecting.

Can you folks think of any others?

Oh, it's definitely a genre, all right. I've got dozens of these "dinosaur-mouth" covers! If I haven't already featured many of these at Oddball Comics, it's only because they're so darn plentiful! Just about every major comic book series has featured at least one of 'em.

    Scott,
Just about every major comic book series has featured at least one of 'em.
, exactly how major was Beowulf, Dragon Slayer? See No. 3 for the cover in question.

Turok doesn't quite make it inside on this cover...

Four words in your ears: Star Spangled War Stories.

Though, oddly, I can report from a quick look on the GCD, no dentists actually inside the jaws.

A cannon, yes. A tank, yes. A B-17, yes. Even a submarine. But not one actual serviceman!

What is the 'most out-of-context' example that you've got, Scott!?

Any featuring Richie Rich or anyone like that?

Fiction House almost let me down, and even then, this is a border line in the mouth of the monster cover.

I just designed a hero-in-a-dinosaur's-mouth cover for an upcoming issue of Heroic Comics' FLARE. Publisher Dennis Malonee asked me to create a cover image that would incorporarate as many Oddball motifs as possible.

Therefore, it depicts Flare, hitting an invading alien purple gorilla in the face with a shark while standing in a dinosaur's mouth. In the background, there's an atomic mushroom cloud, there's a string of approaching flying saucers in the sky, and from below, the dinosaur's being attacked by a giant robot (that looks like a huge wind-up toy.)

    Oddball enough for you?

I've seen the finished art and it is great!

Y'know what'd be perfect? Adding a thought balloon for Flare that says. "Mondays."
