Default Dupont, C8, cancer, edited news reports, blah blah

    http://sundaygazettemail.com/section/News/2005070236 (requires free registration)

"In a sworn statement filed with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Gallagher explained that DuPont regularly reviewed and edited DEP news releases concerning C8 issues."

Recently a panel commissioned by the EPA released a draft report finding that C8 was a likely human carcinogen. Between this and coal (last I heard WV had pretty high levels of mercury in their water) I sure do feel bad for the people of West Virginia.

    Anybody from WV here? Thoughts?

    Exclamation

Now I know this response is severely overdue, but I was watching this show tonight about the plight of the Beluga whale in Alaska and on the other end of Canada and I found one part interesting when they were talking about taking biopsies of some of the whales, in which it was revealed that a farming chemical, a pesticide, banned for over 30 years was found present in the dead & dying elder whales.

now, the thing is, that they said, actually, for wild animals, the elder ones rarely die of cancer so they had determined that the water recieved flow from the great lakes and other parts of Canada long associated with industry and polluting waters. Okay, so they had specifically said and located a pesticide in the animal. Is this remarkable? But what for humans?

Now, I've long held that the medical community, while helping some, is not really helping people, in the long run. They create tests and whatnot, while totally ignoring the simple facts of environmental pollution.

Why is this a concern? As stated in this article,
    http://www.preventcancer.com/losing/...ammography.htm
The fact that a chemical company created the idea behind National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, is why it's wrong to overlook their responsibility and as the original poster stated, DuPont, another chenical company, have done to pollute this world, while not really taking the responsibility that every Tobacco Company has faced for their part in people's deteriorating health.

    As from here,
    http://www.cancer.org/downloads/STT/...nalsecured.pdf
I can count the number of times that smoking is mentioned as a lead in cancer, and there is a link to known and implied chemicals that are also causes of cancer, but there is nothing really calling for the responsibilty of people and certain companies.

I mean, maybe the whale people were wrong. Maybe the pesticide has nothing to do with the present cancer in whales that don't normally get it, but so many women seem to overlook some simple facts when supporting mass movements like the pink ribbon season, that the real cause of cancer is not ever called out. It's just about surviving.

Now, I do feel good about those who make it through their ordeal, but it seems like the medical community and people in general, too often ignore what should be done to actually try and stop some causes of cancer instead of just supporting big companies who have never acknowledged their part in global pollution.

    Anyways, ideas?
