This looks SO good ! Casey's insane larger-than-life concepts and Scioli channeling The King and I'm so picking this up !
Does anyone know if Scioli's previous work, Opus 8, is collected ? I would like to get that too !

Can't help with the previous work but yeah... Godland looks pretty wild. I'm really digging the artwork. It has a solid Kirby look to it.
.....and each issue is a self contained story!!!! I have a good feeling about this book. :) Any idea when it's coming out?
EDIT: July 6th.

Looks like it's not shipping on the 7th. That's kinda unfortunate. I was really looking forward to picking this up. Guess we'll have to wait.
I ordered this series too, looks great. After Freedom force this artist has grabbed my attention, fun stuff.
Minor spoilers ahead....
It isn't often that a first issue gets you hooked from the word go but throughout this entire book, the pacing was great, the art was yummy, the dialogue was fun and the overall series setup was well executed.
I really liked the way we flicked from past to present, from past to present and from past to present. Each transition was well timed and gave us just enough for a small cliffhanger with each turn.
I really, really enjoyed this issue and can't wait for the next!
Anybody else pick this up and enjoy it as much as I did?
I'm on the fence about wether to pick it up or not. Joe Casey usually doesn't dissapoint, plus I'm always in the mood for a trippy Kirby throwback. The Basement Tapes article makes it sound really tempting...
I just read it! I've been waiting a long time for this, And I have to say that it didn't dissapoint!
Man, that view of Mars' landscape is done beautifully, and those trippy scenes are AWESOME. Basil Cronus looks so cool, I can't wait to see more of him in issue 2.
After reading this issue i'm pretty sure this book will be in my top 5. It was pretty much everything I like in a comic. :D
Kick ass.

Dudelikestoparty.. on the fence? Sounds like you're just about to pick it up. You won't be disappointed.
Craig O.... Cronus cracked me up. What a great looking character.
This isn't Starman redux, is it?
It was kind of confusing but fun to read. I liked the art a lot.
The Savage Dragon HomeRun Pies ad rocked! I think that's the most Doubleheader ever spoke...
impression of first few pages left me a little suspicious, but the story really picked up and the last panel was fantastic.
rating 8/10 but gets a +2 because the badguy is named basil. so 10/10

My friend Peter...the puffer fish...is calling me
I really liked Godland #1 a lot. I saw a preview of it online and was nervous cause the art looked weird, but I love The Intimates so I will give anything Joe Casey writes a shot so I bought it and it didn't disappoint at all, in fact it exceeded my expectations. After a few pages I really started to like the art a lot and it really felt like the perfect style for this book. I can't wait for the second issue.
I picked this up because the previews I'd seen looked like the weird, wild, larger than life type stuff I'd personally like to see more of as opposed to the post 911/war-on-terror paranoia that seems everpresent elsewhere. I'm honestly not that familiar with Joe Casey other than knowing he had runs on Cable and one of the Superman books along with seeing him in a few tv interviews though.
You ever watch a dub of a kung-fu or Japanese monster film where you're not quite certain if the voice over is meant to be taken seriously or not? That's sort of what my initial thougts were when I read the issue, but then I realized that the effect helps play into the wierd trippyness present in the comic. The issue really shines when it focuses on the superheroic or out there elements rather than the initial pages with the supporting cast and various other regular people (IMHO). I especially liked the 2 page sequence where Adam splits and his other selves blast him as well as the one page where he's being bitten and appears to experience a vision? The Captian Atom/Radioactive Man-ish visual Adam sports is pretty dang cool too.
Overall, I'd say I enjoyed it, moreso the 2nd time around.

The design for Basil Cronus just kills me, I mean it would be enough if he were just a skull suspended in fluid in a clear container... but NO! theres an air pocket in his container which causes his skull to bob all lopsided! I can't wait to see what this guys origin is suposed to be.
